@jh524: Good luck :) I've been wondering about the effects of inducing on my birth plan as well. I really wanted to try med-free, but it looks like I'll be induced and that might go out the window. I wish you so much luck, and I think since you have practiced and have such a good attitude about it, you'll do great!!

@deerylou: at a hospital and I have met many if the L & D nurses. Luckily they all seem very nice but i definitely hope one or two are working when i go in....maybe just an intuition. One nurse proceeded to tell me all the horrid things that will happen....she was annoying. Just going in and mentally preparing to ignore the negative people and/ or comments. I'm pretty good at it already.

I'm in a similar boat; due the same day you are set to be induced - tomorrow! I have a definite feeling this baby is going to be overdue; we begin to talk about the induction process tomorrow, at my appointment.

I'm wishing you all the luck in the world. Are you birthing at a hospital, or birth center? Have you had the chance to meet any l&d nurses?

@jh524: She was a bad nurse in an already bad situation. I'll be sure to make sure she's not around for any future labors!

@sea_bass: thanks! And I see what your saying..I've already had some nurses say things that were just umpleasent to hear.

@Happygal: thank you, I'm excited and anxious!

@Cherrybee: thank you and appreciate that. Makes me feel better because your absolutely right! It may be more intense but I can manage because I've practiced how to cope and most importantly RELAX!!!!!

@swedishfish: I'm hoping so too! But I've come to terms with it I guess and ill just have to see what happens... It's crazy how many women get induced these days!!!

@Dandelion: I know, I hope I don't clash with the nurse I get because it won't be pretty! Lol

Sort of...I was able to zone out during contractions, but I had a stupid nurse that told me if I zone out it'll make my contractions weaker and progress less. So, she kept irritating me during contractions so that I couldn't focus.

But, when she wasn't in the room, I most certainly did focus and was able to concentrate and relax through contractions.

I'm hoping you will go into labor naturally before your induction begins. Once my pitocin was started I was basically stuck in bed. I had about a five foot space where I could walk with the length of the monitoring cords and IV. I could've gone epidural free and I tried to but once my water was broken my contractions were unbearable. Good luck!

@jh524: Just popping in to wish you the very best of luck. It's so exciting that you will get to hold your baby in your ams this week!!

I really hoped you'd get a lot more replies on this thread because this is potentially what I will be facing, too!! I'm sure lots of people have been induced and still gone on to have the birth they had envisaged.... the key for me is to remember that hypnobirthing never promised to stop the physical sensations, it promised to help me cope with them. So while induction may be a little more intense (although some people say it was no different to their spontaneous labour), it's totally manageable.

Best of luck - I can't wait to hear how you got on! It will be amazing and you will totally rock it!!

In a sort yes... It is certainly not impossible.

But you have to be very, very careful about the language you allow in the delivery room. You must stick to your guns.. I cannot stress enough how if you allow certain non-hypnobirthing terms into the delivery room, how much it will affect you.

Hearing people say "This will make your contractions get stronger" is just not helpful when you are hypnobirthing.

Best of luck. I am sure it will go great.

What was your experience with induction and hypnobirthing?

I have been planning on a natural, med-free hypnobirth. Im set for induction on tuesday morning (I'll be 41 weeks) and feeling very discouraged that my hopes will no longer be a viable option. If you have an experience to share, Id love to read it!

Im 40 +5 weeks today....My Dr. will start with cervidel, then to balloon, etc... I am not dilated, 60 effaced and babys head very low.
