We looked at solitaire diamonds set in white gold/platinum, but then he ended up getting me a fancy yellow diamond set in an artist's setting that is a combo of platinum and yellow gold. Simple and short so it doesn't get caught on stuff, and relatively cheap so I'm not nervous about wearing it were my stated preferences) He got me a squarish halo that sticks out almost half an inch and cost twice as much as the most expensive ring I referenced (and that was after INCREASING my price range, because he didn't approve of my preferred price range) - at least it was white gold? I showed him a couple but he ended up picking out my engagement ring and wedding bands all on his own and did a FANTASTIC job.
