I think it's because it was such a big purchase that comes with a whole new set of responsibilities. We also chose a place we see ourselves settling down in - it was and still is where we decided to (start and) raise our family. It's a huge step! It's such a big purchase and decision. We weren't looking for a starter home so we were practically making a lifetime decision. We're a few days away from settlement and haven't got insurance sorted yet, which you need to get your loan finalized. And of course... the insurance rep hasn't called us back since Friday... OMG. Its a huge commitment and we did it pretty spontaneously so I wasn't 100% about our financial situation. We also had to deal with renting out our townhouse. Dh was more knowledgeable about everything though, and I was 8 1/2 months pregnant.
