I went into labor naturally on a Monday at 41w3d. BP and fluids were great same with NST. Appt the Friday before I wasn't effaced and wasn't dilated. I'm glad I waited and didn't so the induction, though I was miserable and a hormonal wreck :)

I was induced at 40w5d. It wasn't safe for me to go too long with my history. I had my membranes stripped twice. Hurt like a mofo, though!

I went into labour naturally at 41+1 and she was born the next day. I had my appt booked to schedule my induction I was so over it. Give yourself a couple more days since you O due date is probably the correct one and see what happens.

@Arden: I think I might consent to one tomorrow (assuming I can keep my appointment despite the snow) just so we can have a sense of where things stand.

I went into labor at 40w2d, but had I not, my midwife would let me go to 42 weeks before doing an induction.

@ElbieKay: Do you know what your Bishop's score is? I wouldn't consent to an induction if my score wasn't good because the chances of a favorable result are slim.

If your baby is doing well and you are having NST's as needed, I don't see any reason why you should have an induction now.

I went one week post date (so 41 weeks), but I would have waited until 42 before an induction.

My daughter was born (vaginally) at exactly 42 weeks. I was induced the evening prior (only 45 minutes of cervidil, no pitocin needed), as my doctor wasn't comfortable with me going over 42 weeks. I felt at ease listening to her advice, and was glad she didn't push induction upon me, earlier.

Thanks to everyone for your input so far. I had a BPP/NST three days ago (40w4d or 40w2d depending on which EDD you use) and have another one scheduled in 4 days (41w4d or 41w2d).

I doubt my doc would let me start an induction on a Friday or over the weekend anyway, so maybe I will just push to wait til next Monday which would be either 42w1d or 41w6d.

Maybe tonight's snowstorm will get him moving! I am not superstitious other than a belief in Murphy's Law ;-)

I was induced at 41 weeks and ended up with a vaginal delivery. My doctor was concerned that the baby might get too large for me to deliver vaginally so she was adamant about inducing at 41 wks. That said, her size estimate was more than a pound off and my lo ended up being 7 lbs at birth but I have no complaints about the induction.

My first was born at 41w 6 days! My 42 week appointment was scheduled for the day he ended up being born! I saw a midwife so she was not concerned, I was also scheduled for a stress test/ultrasound (to check fluid levels) during the 42nd week. Usually they will do tests like that to make sure everything is okay. I would ask about that and if there is cause for concern certainly an induction might makes sense but otherwise I would wait.

I had a very similar induction experience to @Danizaur: (my LONG birth story is here: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/baby-hergreenapples-birth-storyfinally-long) and ultimately ended up with a csection. This was at 42w (dd born at 42+1).

I was with a midwife and all decisions were very much up to me (she educated based on evidence-based fact, and then DH and I made our own decisions, no pressure to induce). Based on the information we received, as well as the journal articles I read on the topic, and the recommendations of the Canadian society of OB/GYNS, we were comfortable going past 41+3, which is the community standard here for OBs to induce. Outcomes between 41 and 42 weeks are very positive. After 42 weeks outcomes start to become iffy and the risk of still birth goes up, hence why we chose to induce at 42 weeks, but not before. I should also note that starting at 41+3 I went for regular NSTs and BPPs, which all showed the baby was doing great.

My cervix was very unfavourable for induction (1 cm, 20-30% effaced) despite having done EVERYTHING to move things along, including tons of walking, acupuncture, homeopathy, spicy foods, evening primrose oil, two membrane sweeps, sex etc. etc. So I think that was a big factor in why my induction turned out the way way it did. I also would never recommend a Foley catheter induction. If I were to do it again I would ask for a cervix ripener.

I realize this is long, but it's something I've thought a lot about. But all this to say that I would wait it out to 42 weeks and wouldn't let a doctor tell me that I HAD to be induced by X date.

@Danizaur: I continue to wonder "what if" at 10 months pp, but I realize it's a useless game. I believe, in my case, that dd was likely malpositioned and between that and my having very tight abdominal muscles (or so all the midwives and doctors who examined me said) she was never able to properly descend into my pelvis and put pressure on my cervix. I'm at peace with my birth now, but it took quite awhile, and some grieving, to get there.

I'm definitely in the go as long as you can camp. Unless there's a medical reason, I wouldn't go for an induction until they made me.

If you can wait another week, I would. Although I'm satisfied and happy with my c section, I feel like I may have had a chance for an unmedicated birth had I not accepted the induction that ultimately didn't work. I got all the meds!! Lol. Still happy with how it turned out but I'm still wondering "what if".

ETA: I wasn't overdue but my doctor really didn't want me to continue much further because my BP had been up. That being said, I would have been 41w2d today and I can't imagine still being pregnant. It's rough at the end!

What happened?

Today I am 41w0d according to LMP, and 40w5d according to the ovulation test that I took.

My doc doesn't want me to go more than 10 days overdue, so she will either push for an induction in 3 days or 5 depending on the date.

Should I push to wait for the full 42w if necessary? I really don't want an induction, but I don't want to be reckless if it becomes medically precarious.
