I believed in God as a kid and we had a lot of good chats... mostly when I would beg God for help. It was a pretty one-sided relationship!

I was raised Catholic but was not confirmed. Right around the time I would have been, my parents got divorced, and we all know how the Catholic Church feels about divorce. After that, I fell away.

I would describe myself as comfortably agnostic now.

We were Jehovah's Witnesses and after that went to Baptist Church. No more church for me, I only go for weddings, baptisms or funerals. I would say I'm a spiritual agnostic if that makes any sense. DH was raised Pentecostal and is now an atheist.

I was very involved in church as a teen. I went on sunday, wednesday bible study, and teen church on thursday. I was a peer leader, led worship at the teen church, was a mentor in our abstinence group. My senior year I won camper of the year at bible camp.
Some things happened when I was 19 that kept me away since then! I miss the social/familial aspect of church!

I grew up in the church and for my husband and I, it's important our LO grows up in the church too. Our faith is very important to us, plus we want our LO's to have the same sense of family that our church has.

I was raised catholic (not strictly, it was just what my mom was so that is the church we went to) but I never connected with the beliefs or views presented, so I was never religious but am familiar with the teachings. I actually am confirmed, but it wasn't by choice. If we didn't do it our mom was going to make us take the entire year long confirmation process over again.

Our kids will be raised atheist, which people act like is a dirty word around here.

I was raised in the church, but didn't really get it until I was about 28 years old. Now I have a deeper understanding and am more serious about my faith!

Yes... It didn't help that my parents changed religions when I was a teen. I would have been so much more likely to stick with it if they had stayed in the same denomination. Instead, I started to see it all as arbitrary. These folks think those folks are going to hell, while those folks think the opposite. It was all too much!

I went to a christian church from 5-16 even though my parents weren't religious. Our landlord was a pastor and took my brother and me to church with him. Church was a huge part of my life. I went to Friday bible study, went to church every Sunday, camps in the summers. I'm still good friends with many of my church friends almost 20 years later. church was very much a social thing for me.

but as an adult, i'm an atheist and plan to raise my kids as atheists. anyone else leave a religion they grew up with?
