I wasn't scared of labor itself, but I hadn't slept in two days and was worried I'll just pass out halfway. Other than that, it really wasn't bad. I've had toothaches and colds that felt way worse.

I'm more scared this time - I'm sure I'll get to the hospital even more tired, between having to work till the last minute and having to act "normal" at home even if I'm in labor, so DS doesn't get freaked out.

@paigeface: I have the same fear :bummed: I guess it's normal...

@paigeface: Did you take any childbirth classes? I just took a class last week at 24 weeks. I'm feeling much better after that class. Though, I wonder if I'm going to be scared again when get get closer to 33 weeks.

Bump! I'm 10 weeks away from being 40 weeks and it's all starting to set in this this little one has to come out!

I am absolutely terrified. I cried twice last night thinking about it. Should I be THIS scared?

Also, is it a normal fear to worry that baby is healthy? I've been finding myself worrying about that as time gets closer as well.

I was terrified before my first, which was a c-section for breech. That went totally fine, so I wasn't scared for my second, which was a vbac. The second was an absolutely monumentally horrible experience that I should have been scared of, lol. I am very scared of a third.

@bluestriped bee: I wasnt really scared until the last month/couple weeks and then I was really scared! Even after about two days of labor one at home I freaked out looking at the baby warmer and thinking the baby would be x big. During pushing I was oddly not really nervous and just did what the nurses said to do, and was lucky enough to have an epidural that worked. (Seriously, I got that thing within an hour, really less than an hour, of getting to the hospital, 8cm. I was terrified they wouldn't give me one but it went great.). One way or another baby has to come out.. I'm not really as nervous this time. I will say I'm nervous about having a long labor though.
Edit to add.. When I say I was scared the first time what I really remember being scared of wasnt labor and delivery because I planned on an epidural but recovery. The idea of having a newborn while being extremely swollen and sore scared the crap out of me.. But it hurt less than I thought it would, even if it took a long time.

No, I wasn't scared and was completely unprepared. I just assumed I'd get an epidural and go with the flow. I couldn't get an epidural, but I did go with the flow. And once I was in labor, I wasn't scared, just in pain!

I was more scared (nervous) about my water breaking at work and having to take care of a newborn! Labor wasn't really something I thought much about it.

A little bit but I tried not to think about it too much. I knew a lot of it would be out of my control and it was. Towards the end when I was really big I do remember worrying about him being too big to get out. I did need a c section so that answered that. I knew my belly was huge but I did not mentally prepare for a c section at all. The thought of surgery terrifies me and I did not allow for the possibility. I probably should have read up a little bit.

No, I wasn't. I had a natural labor class and did hypnobabies and was convinced I could handle it. I was wrong! I will be more scared the second time now that I know what labor pains feel like. But I will also plan for the epi ahead of time for the second one.

I had a great birth prep class and I was strangely calm about it. Even after it happened, I was like... meh, that wasn't soooo bad. But as I shared my birth story, more and more people wrote me off as having an "easy" birth, and that I'll never get that again... so now I'm terrified of ever having another one.

@mrscobee: I had a great OB who regaled me with stories of delivering a baby gorilla. I had wonderful nirses who helped me relax and get through it, and my cousin in law who is a nurse midwife helped me as my doula.

It was such a magical night and morning. It just took me awhile to commit to it and relax into it. At that point, I realized that I could do this. My body knew what to do...

They asked me to do a test push and then said "whoa, whoa. Stop!" They got set up and three pushes later, there was our baby!

I would trust my body so much more if I had it to do over again!

Nope, both times. Having just had a baby a few days ago, I hate how my body has contractions. Those were the worst. My labor and delivery was fast this time, so it was easier that way despite those contractions from hell. Right now, the complications annoy me more like being home with a catheter and having issues peeing.

Scared, but not of the pain, but the hospital stay and losing all control. It sounds silly now after giving birth, but I had never stayed in a hospital, and my experience with doctors was limited to my one year well checkup. I walked out of the hospital prenatal class and had a breakdown in the parking lot

Thankfully it was nothing like I feared it would be and the staff was wonderful. I'm not afraid if we were to have a second.

I think I was more scared of the unknown. I was going in with an open mind on having a medicated birth, and I had my mind made up after getting to the hospital that I'd need an epidural. I was incredibly afraid of an emergency C-section after pushing for hours which is exactly what happened to me.

In the end, actual labor and the C-section wasn't nearly as bad as I feared, but a baby in the NICU when you have a C-section was really emotionally hard for me. And that was something I wasn't expecting.

Now that I'm having a RCS, I'm not at all scared!

Oddly, no. Someone told me years ago that for a lot of women there comes a point during pregnancy that the fear goes away and all you want is to no longer be pregnant and to finally meet your baby. That was definitely the case for me...there was some concern for the unknown (mainly because I was having twins) but honestly, my attitude toward labor was pretty much "I'm in good hands & come what may."
