I feel the same way about the stories that my mom tells. Apparently both my sister and I slept beautifully, and we transitioned from the bassinet to the crib in our own rooms with no problems whatsoever. My mom did mention that I got somewhat addicted to being rocked to sleep, and she had to wean me from that at some point. Of course, I've already been suckered into rocking my 3-month old to sleep every night, so I'm sure I'll be in the same boat soon enough... From age 4-7 I shared a room with my brother, though. When I sleep-trained LO, my mom was very on-board. I told my mom and dad I had let my LO cry for 1-3 minutes this week to get her to fall asleep on her own and my DAD gave me an earful. Hahaha :P :)
