I definitely was not spoiled. I was well taken care off though. My dad and step mom were strict. I hardly got to go to sleep overs and never school dances. If we were in a store and picked out a toy or something we wanted we got in trouble. Rarely my parents would allow us to pick out something small like stickers or silly putty and those times were special.

When I moved into my moms as a high schooler I became more spoiled. My mom was very much into me getting to experience things like traveling with friends and going out on dates. As long as I had a job, did my chores at home, and wasn't being disrespectful she never told me no.

I dont think so at all. My parents were pretty practical and hard working people. They gave us what they could, but knew there was so much we didnt need. Lived in the country too. So hard working reponsible kids is what they raised...just like them.

I think at times I was spoiled. Not by my parents but by everyone else. I was the last child born in our extended family and by about 10 years, so everyone was so excited that a little baby was around again. I got a lotta love.

I am worried about my MIL spoiling our future child. We have DH's boys every other weekend and she already showers them with STUFF. It makes me crazy. I can't imagine how she would be with a kid that's around all the time!

I was never even almost spoiled. My mom always bought stuff for my other siblings but not me. She would leave me with my grandma when they went to do stuff. She would sometimes buy what I needed like hygiene items and maybe once a year some clothes but my grandma usually bought the things I needed but not a whole lot more.

I wouldn't say spoiled, but I was given a lot and for that, I'm thankful. I hope that my LO has a childhood on par with mine and DH's, which were relatively similar.

I was spoiled, I think. But we really didn't have much. When we were little, my parents didn't have a lot of money, but they always made sure we were happy. We also always had our chores we had to do, and we got jobs at about 12- babysitting and stuff- and when we worked all through high school.

I was spoilled, but I wasn't rotten. I had a job from when I was 12, I had chores to do around the house and my dad was very strict with my sister and I. We appreciated everything he gave us, and knew that if we mis-behaved those things could (and were!) taken away. We went on vacations, played sports, I rode horses and competed (and owned 2 different horses) in my teen years. But you better believe that if the dishes weren't done when dad got home from work, or the laundry wasn't kept up, I'd be grounded from my horse for 2-3 days at a time.

I would say slightly spoiled, my parents made every effort to give us what we needed/wanted, however it was known that we had to work for our things. We did housework, babysat, ect. as soon as we were old enough. We also had after school jobs as soon as we were of legal age. They wanted to instill in us their hard work ethic, and that they did. I plan on trying to do the same thing they did. My husband was raised the same way and agrees.

I don’t think my brother and I were spoiled, but we did have some luxuries that other people don’t have. My parents were very middle class, but always found ways to pay for expensive private music/dance lessons (for me), and all the sports gear and stuff and music lessons for my brother. They funded whatever activity we were involved in. We went on vacation 1-2 times a year (always within the US, usually to visit family).

When relatives would give us cash for bday/holidays, we would only be given a very small portion of it and the rest had to go into our college funds, which sucked as a kid, but which I’m grateful for now.

We had a comfortable life – not tons of extras, but enough that we never felt like we were going without. My parents didn’t believe in allowance, or giving us cash, which is part of the reason I’ve been working since I was 15 lol

Yes and no. Growing up we always had enough money so I've never had the go-without feeling. As a result, even though my parents didn't shower me with things, I think you can become spoiled if you didn't suffer through any hardships. In contrast, my mom had to escape Vietnam, go to a refugee camp, etc so I think compared to her I was spoiled because I was lucky to have a comfortable life. Maybe some people do not define that as being spoiled but I kind of do. It could just be called having a fortunate life but I think it has a knock on effect on how you handle hardships as an adult.

I don't think my brother and I were spoiled. We never really got birthday and/or Christmas "gifts." We always got cash gifts from family and saved the money for a "rainy day." My parents let us go crazy one year when I was in middle school and I bought a CD player and a bunch of CDs from best buy.

When we were first born, I think we were spoiled by aunts/uncles as far as clothes/toys, but in the memory I do have... I don't recall getting everything I wanted, but always had what I needed.

I was spoiled but reasonably (not sure if that makes sense)
I didn't always get what I wanted, but when my parents said no I knew there was a great explanation for it and couldn't really contest it. We never missed anything and I am grateful that even later in life we understood the value of money more than alot of my friends. (even if I didn't get the lesson of Credit Cards and how bad they are. lol )

I will do this for my kids as well, and teach them early on the value of money so that they don't ask every 2 second for a toy and pull a fit when i say no.

When we were very little my parents were just starting out so we didn't have very much. Very few toys and trips since they worked all the time. So I definitely was far from spoiled! They did reward us for good grades once or twice a year with a big purchase like a Nintendo system. But by the time I was in high school and definitely by college, my parents were more successful and my parents indulged us a bit more then. My youngest brother is the most spoiled. He had a lot of fun toys because my parents successful by the time he came around!

we were very poor when i was in elementary school, so we had virtually no toys, never traveled, and just had very little in general. when i was in jr high my parents started making more money, and by the time i was in high school they were relatively successful. my parents were quite lax with my allowance then. i don't think i was ever spoiled, but i do have a pretty lax attitude when it comes to money which i hope not to pass down to my children.

I wasn't spoiled - my parents were SUPER strict with me and my brother. Our birthday/Christmas presents were either school-related (new backpack, books, crayons, etc.) or we received money that we weren't allowed to spend! Any money we received, we had to put into the bank. I know, right!?!?

I wasn't spoiled but I got to go on a lot more vacations than a lot of people I knew. While everyone else went to Disney every year, we were going out west, to the Caribbean, to Europe, etc. Our kids won't get what my brother and I got in terms of vacations but we will do our best to make sure they enjoy their childhoods with road trips and camping trips! :)

Everybody seems to be very worried about spoiling their children.

Honestly... I was pretty spoiled! And I think I turned out ok. I think there's a difference between being spoiled and being a spoiled brat though. I always appreciated what my parents gave me. I felt like if I didn't and if I started being bratty towards them, or over spending their money, it could all easily get taken away. I never expected them to give me things or got mad when they said no.

We're not as "well off" as my parents so I don't really have to worry about spoiling my baby girl with material things. We just can't afford it. But either way, it's not really something I've ever worried about.

What about you guys, did your parents spoil you?
