Oh yeah-- I remember thinking "wow, these hormones really are no joke" within a day or two of getting home. I had my own "witching hour" around 3pm every day where I felt inexplicably sad/lonely and overwhelmed. I also had a total panic when DH went back to work/my mom left-- like, there is no way I can possibly take care of this baby by myself, etc. But it definitely got better after a few weeks and was gone by around 6 weeks. Hang in there!

Yes, about 5-6 days after delivery I was an emotional wreck, couldn't stop crying. I could almost feel my body changing and I would cry over anything.

I think the first month after was especially bad, but it could also be the lack of sleep and trying to get used to a baby's non-schedule. I was on survival mode being frazzled and sometimes something would just snap and there were moments when I would just start crying.

@yin: this was my experience too! A wreck with LO1, and completely un-hormonal with LO2. I even ventured out alone for an hour at 11 days PP (which I just couldn't even think about doing with LO1!), ran into someone I knew and she was like "You just had a baby?! What?! How?!" Since I was so calm and rested looking. :silly:

I cried once when my mom was helping me get LO to latch a few days postpartum and I remember looking at her and saying "I don't even know why I'm crying" and then laughing at myself. Crazzzy hormones and sleep deprivation. Thankfully that was the only real episode. My mom totally understood and didn't even bat an eyelash.

Yep. My son was born 12 days ago and today's the first day I haven't cried! A big part for me is a really rough delivery that upsets me when I reflect on it...but plenty of tears have been shed for totally random reasons, too. From what I hear it's pretty normal!

I cried about everything. When LO was about a week old, we had a lot of visitors & I didn't get to spend much time with her. Then everyone left but my brother came by. I tried to let him hold her but after about 10 minutes I lost it & started crying because I missed my baby. He gave her back & I just sat there & cried & he looked terrified lol.

With my first, I was a hot mess as soon as I got to my postpartum room. DH had gone down to the car to get my post-baby bag and I was left alone with a crying newborn and had absolutely no idea what to do! It lasted about half an hour and then I was fine - no emotional issues after that.

With my second, I had no emotional breakdowns at all. Nine hours after I left for the hospital whilst in labour, I arrived home with a newborn, feeling as though I'd done nothing more strenuous than take a walk in the park (labour sucked but I felt like a million bucks afterwards). Same held true for my emotional well being - never experienced any issues and no baby blues this time either.

Hot. Mess. I would cry at anything and everything. I would literally just sit and cry. It takes a lot to make me cry so my husband was pretty shocked the first couple times he saw me crying thinking something was horribly wrong. Nope, I'm just a friggin hormonal blubbering mess, again. The good news is the it went away after a few weeks.

I was good until we had to stay an extra two days due to jaundice...we were moved to the peds floor and only one parent was able to stay with her (and I was nursing). They had me wake up every 1-2 hrs to nurse and I remember just sobbing. Other than that though, I was pretty good. I wonder how things will be this go around? OP, any idea why it was worse the second time? ETA: Oops, just saw your parents had your oldest. Yeah, that would kill me.

One thing I wasn't expecting was how I felt my first week post partum. I was an emotional mess. I had anxiety, trouble sleeping, crying fits... It was awful. People definitely noticed I wasn't myself. Luckily it only lasted the first week and then I was back to my normal, cheerful self. It was really tough on me though.

For the first 48 hours after birth I was hormonal in a weepy "oh my god how beautiful is my perfect child" kind of way. Then after 4-5 days I was hormonal in an anxiety-ridden, overwhelmed way. It came on worst in the evenings (I'd think "I cannot get through another night of this.") It lifted noticeably after 6 weeks. Hang in there!

I was a mess for days after we left the hospital. The night we brought him home I think I cried for 2 hours straight. Thankfully my mom was with us and she helped out. After that random things would make me cry. Out of water? Tears. Out of graham crackers? Tears. Baby finally fell asleep on me but I have to pee? Tears. I think around the 1.5-2 week mark my hormones finally settled down.
