I got dismissed by a lot of IRL friends too. A lot of oh you'll get through it comments. Yes, I'm sure I will get through it but any advice or support to HELP get me through it would have been nice.

That would irk me too! I don't understand why felt compelled to have to say things like that. UGH!!

Most of my friends have been really really supportive. All but one. She would say things like "You're being so annoying about that. You just need to relax." I've been keeping my distance from her ever since those types of comments because it just made me realize how unsupportive she was.

@Sammyfab: Nope, she just didn't even bother to respond to my email! She was lucky and had very easy babies, so she never had to worry about it.

@T-Mom: That is annoying! I hate it when people don't just let us go through that first-time mom phase where we read the books, are strict about schedules/feeding, etc. The first time around is so hard, and you really just want good advice/support as opposed to patronizing words.

I had a friend who was already a mommy of 2 roll her eyes when I told her how I was reading Babywise and a few other sleep books. She has a completely different parenting style. She kept telling me to throw the books away and that kids are not black and white. It was annoying. Now as a mom of 2, I actually kind of agree with her! But I try really hard to keep my opinions to myself now and only offer solicited advice or encouraging support.

Oooh....that would really irk me too! Did she even offer any advice?

I'm a compulsive googler and I would just consult Internet resources rather than my mom friends. A lot of my friends are much more go-with-the-flow and more AP than I am so while I could vent, I really couldn't get the advice I was seeking. If I did reach out, thankfully everyone was supportive!

Most of my mommy friends (many of whom have 2 kids) were pretty supportive when i emailed/talked to them about sleep/feeding issues but once in a while i'd get a comment like, "Oh yeah i was reading your email and just thought, sigh, first time mom." A friend made that comment 3 months ago, and it still irks me today!
