The only polish things she's retained after all these years are the swear words. When she drops something she curses in polish and it's really cute.</p> <p>My husband is an immigrant. He is from Ecuador and has lived here for about 2 years. Growing up, my parents made it a point to only talk to me in Tagalog (Filipino) at home. We celebrated American holidays, but it took awhile before my mom could figure out how to cook a turkey. Christmas was the biggest holiday for us - I was brought up Catholic and they're used to much larger festivities back in their hometown. My family immigrated here at some point (well half. I'm part Native American) but it was so far back we have no records of it. We are not even 100% sure where we come from. That said, I grew up here in the U.S. so there is a part of me that is very much American, too. DHs family has been in the US less than 100 years, his grandparents are first generation Americans. My family has, mostly, been in the states since the colonial era (we were Jamestown colonists!)
