It was always just the teacher and the students. Both worked FT so they probably couldn't have done it but they were very involved with the PTA. I only remember having one class mom. In the elementary, where I teach, we don't have class mom/dads. However, I recently saw my only 'honorary' class dad from a few years ago. It makes me sad that my parents weren't involved but now that I know the reason I can understand why. My mom worked full time, was PTA president, and went to all our sporting events, dance classes, etc. I didn't know how she did it then and now as a mom, I really have no clue where she found the time! My dad was on the school board and both came to most of the in-town things and usually tried to make at least some of the out of town things. My school didn't really have "class mom" but they did have a parents group that did stuff generally for the school. My mom wasn't a part of it though. I don't know why, maybe just because she's not really a joiner. Also maybe to give me a little space? My mom always worked at my school (all of them! From K-12 there was only 1 year that my mom did not work at the school I was attending-- although she swore it was coincidence they moved her to middle then high school right after me hah). My parents worked full-time so they weren't able to chaperone field trips, but when I was older and played sports, they managed to make most of my games. My dad was a Boy Scout leader for my brother's troop, coached a lot of our sports, and always volunteered as a chaperone for field trips. They both worked full-time, but my mom took a job when I was in middle school-high school specifically because it provided her opportunities to work in the schools a lot... He always made sure we were doing good in school and helped with homework and studying and projects every single time. He also chaperoned a few field trips even though he's not much of a kid person. That means so much to me. Mom kind of took the backseat since my dad was so active. They were divorced and both worked full time. They were both pretty involved in the elementary school since it was a Catholic school connected to our parish, and they were active in the church. However, once in 6th grade my dad (a geologist) came and talked to my science class and I was SO PROUD! He brought lot's of cool maps and rocks with him that the other kids thought were neat. I didn't mind, I was always happy for my parents to be involved. And I love that my mom still sees a group of fellow PTA moms at least once a month for dinner.
