My mom was always was hugging and kissing us. Told us she loved us everyday til her last day. My dad is very affectionate, its cute to see with my son. P fell to night and my dad was kissing his head where he bumped it at. It was sweet to see! I model my snuggles and cuddles after hers. My dad is affectionate too, but not in a snuggly way like my mom. Well they seperated when i was 3 so definitely not affectionate with each other. She still likes to snuggle us! As siblings we hug when we see each other or say goodbye, but that's it. DH's family hugs as greetings but they aren't super affectionate otherwise. My parents got divorced though, so I can see why they weren't affectionate before that. My dad hugged us, but my mom wasn't a very snuggly type, and neither really kissed us past when we were super little. My dad also always says I love yous, but my mom not so often. My husband's family is also Japanese (his grandma), and actually pretty good about hugging (maybe because I just hug anyway), but not verbally affectionate, or really expressive, at all. No emotion-sharing that way very often, besides the occasional "love you!" while saying goodbye. I, however, am very affectionate and give lots of hugs to family and friends, and snuggle and smooch my husband and baby girl all the time. Our daughter loves to see us be affectionate with each other, and I think it's healthy for her to see that mom and dad love each other. SO's family is really physically affectionate, they hug constantly, and kiss each other ON THE LIPS for greetings and goodbyes. OMG I about DIED of awkwardness when his dad kissed me goodbye on the lips. I would feel really awkward hugging either of my parents as an adult. But my mom was very warm and loving. My dad wasn't that huggy but he would let my brother and I climb onto his legs and then he'd walk around with us clinging to his legs.
