I was definitely stressed and had a lot of BH. I had some pretty stressful family members visit me for 3 very long weeks and I ended up delivering at 34 weeks, just a few short days after they left. I wish I had taken better care of relaxing - easier said than done.

@dc yoga bee: This sounds exactly like me.

I'm type A as well, and typically stressed. I get tense to the point of feeling stiff as a board. All that's helped me has been going to the chiropractor and acupuncture. It's become too expensive though, so now I'm just doing yoga and meditation at home. It's hard.

Hugs! Hang in there.

@MrsMccarthy: I definitely had/have high stress both pregnancies. It's so difficult. Last time was for totally different reasons and I never noticed it affecting my pregnancy, but this time I'm experiencing a lot of Braxton hicks and uncomfortableness.

Thinking of you!!! I'm here if you ever need an ear <3

We dealt with marital issues, an international move, living away from family for the first time, and my FILs death while I was pregnant. I was extremely stressed.

Up until last Thursday we were in danger of loosing our house and being left in 100k+ of debt through no fault of our own, I also had to be a witness in court because of this and most recently wait for the verdict. I'm really not worried, women have been having babies in stressful situations from the biggining of time.

@MrsMccarthy: change the way you think about stress. Tell yourself "this stress is good for me, it is preparing me for these challenges." It sounds so simple but it has helped me a lot. I have become really good at dealing with stress because I have had to!

Eta: before I thought this way I was having stress about my stress and no one needs that! My DH lost his job a couple days before we found out we were pregnant. It was a huge time of stress and LO is doing great if that is any consolation. Just do your best to relax and know your body is healthy and everything is okay.

@pinkb: it's not been proven that delays are caused by stress and they say its more likely a combination of factors. It's good not to stress but we also can't stress about stressing! Don't let my neurosis add to your load love!

Thank you all for your tips and support. It doesn't help that my husband seems to resent it anytime I try to tell him I need to relax. He offers me water which is nice but in general he is just more focused on his own stress. I get that but it's not like his stress could cause our daughter to be premature! Ugh! Sorry to vent. I love him but nurturing is not his strong suit.

I am a pretty happy, laid back person in general. However, this pregnancy there has been a lot of stress - stress from thinking about life with 3 under 3, big work changes, my grandmother died, legal fights with dh's ex, etc. I try my best to relax whenever I can in order to keep these babies somewhat happy. I agree with people about taking a bath, or even just a nap is great sometimes. I ask dh to watch ds so that I can have just an hour of me time, especially on the weekends. I wish there was a great solution but I haven't found one. Just keep breathing and try to maintain a positive attitude/outlook!

Yes! I have had a very stressful pregnancy. I had bad morning sickness until 18 weeks, a stressful exhausting job at a restaurant, my grandfather passed away when I was 6 weeks and after that my two aunts ganged up on my mom and her family and basically convinced my grandmother my mom was trying to steal all her money along with some other really hurtful untrue things. Oh and my dad just got a liver transplant! I don't know if my stress level will affect my little girl or not, but I do worry about it a lot. It's so frustrating that we stress and then stress about the stress. I've just tried to relax as much as possible and get the things done that I need to before she gets here and hope for the best. We can't really afford massages and things like that either. I've thought about doing therapy but that's a big expense too. My insurance company has some really good guided imagery podcasts that I recently discovered and that has been a big help to calm me down at night. I'm sure our little ones will be just fine. After all, pregnancy tends to be stressful for anyone.

I'm pretty laid back in general, but I've definitely had my fair amount of stress for this pregnancy. Losing my son is the biggest part of that, I'm obviously still heartbroken, and always will be, about it. Also, buying a new house and moving is not helping with my stress, along with major issues with my MIL.
I try to relax as much as possible, but I can't help being stressed to some extent.

Unfortunately, I'm a type A, and stressful by nature. I'm also a lawyer, and my firm is going through a rough patch with the media. My body responds to stress with aches, pains, and tense knots all over my body. DH massages my back and shoulders each night, and can't get over how many knots there are. The doctor felt my shoulders, and said it was literally hard as a rock. Warm baths with lots of bubbles have been helping. It's my downtime, and helps soothe my muscles. I also really try to remind myself I have to stay calm for sake of baby. Don't want to subject this little guy or gal out before they even come into this crazy world! I hope you can find something to help you unwind, and things get better soon!

MY DH says that pregnancy mellows me out. I am pretty laid back by nature, but even more of a cool cat when I'm KU. It's weird! I did notice that I would feel physically Ill or have contractions during the times I did get stressed though.

I hope you can relax and the issues resolve. Everything will be ok. Thinking about you!!!

Yes with DD I believe it is what sent me into preterm labor at 32 weeks, ultimately causing me to give birth at 36 weeks. It was mostly work stress and I could feel my belly get hard every day when I went into work. At home I would have a lot of BH. It is just how my body deals with stress :( DD also has delays and sensory issues, but I never thought about it like it could have also been caused by the stress :bummed: I hope not!

It is so much harder this time around, since I already have DD. I hope you can start to find some alone time to relax a bit, I think it is even harder when you SAH to find time for yourself. Whatever makes you happy. Mine is a cup of coffee and quite time during nap, but that isn't happening everyday anymore :( I also have to tell myself (yes I talk to myself) all the time that all that maters is a healthy baby and a healthy mom, whatever I have to do to get to that point is what I have to do. Positive affirmations, I might look like a loon, but I only do it when I am alone and can feel the stress.

I had a lot of family issues while I was pregnant. I constantly made myself take a step back and just focus on the good things in my life for the sake of the baby. Easier said than done, of course. Is there any way you can meditate, even for a few minutes? Hugs and I hope things get better soon!!

I'm dealing with some pretty overwhelming personal matters right now and I've noticed myself having a lot of Braxton hicks contractions. I not only feel stressed but I stress about how much I'm stressing. When I was pregnant with my son I had high levels of stress as well during a move across the country from NYC to Portland and when my husband suddenly lost his job after said move and we almost had to apply for welfare after two months. It all worked out but sometimes I wonder if my stress didn't contribute to the sensory issues my son is experiencing. I know ts more complicated than that but its hard not to feel like everything is a factor. Are any of you going through this? Any suggestions?

The things I am seriously short on now are money and time for myself so unfortunately therapy or massages are really not an option right now.

Thank you!
