@MrsTiger: I guess at the first sign of contractions, I'll just head home instead of doing the "Oh, are these contractions? What's happening?" that I did last time for FOUR HOURS!

I said longer but my first was induction which consisted of two days of cervical ripening before the actual induction started that I didn't include. First labor I had a handful of painful contractions the night before the induction. Pitocin started at 11 am and delivered just before 6 pm. Second labor contractions started naturally on Wednesday afternoon and delivered after 5pm on Thursday. Even though it was longer the second labor was easier.

Labor with #1 was about 5 hours after my induction (water broke about 10 hours before that)..

#2 was 4 hours start to finish and out in 3 pushes - eek! I was only at the hospital 40 minutes before I had a baby in my arms.

MUCH faster.

LO1 - I was already at 7cm within 30min of contractions starting and then I had an epi which slowed everything down. From the time contractions started to the birth it was about 10 hours total with 1 hour of pushing.

LO2 - my water broke and the nothing happened for a long time (no contractions). I was given an enema which jump started the contractions and once they did start the whole L&D was only 45min with 3 pushes!

Start to finish was exactly the same, but pushing was significantly reduced (3 hours for #1 and 15 minutes for #2).

One hour longer but pushing was 5 or less minutes vs an hour and 45 minutes. I was able to stand and walk/talk through most of my labor the second time around.

Just curious for those with two or more kids. Were your subsequent deliveries quicker?

For the purpose of our poll I would say start from when you knew it was the real deal! Including laboring at home.
