Usually they don't do any more after 20 weeks. I had one at 32 weeks to check if my previa had cleared up (it had) and I have one Monday at 39+1 because my fundal height was small at this week's checkup and they want to check baby's growth and my fluid levels. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had any more past the 20 week.

@tequiero21: If you google it, you can probably find instructions on how to figure out the position using your hands/feeling. It takes a bit of practice (I learned in nursing school). It is neat to figure out where baby is (although mine has been consistently head down for months, so not much of a challenge for me).

Had the gender scan and that was it!

Late pregnancy u/s are becoming more common BUT they're highly inaccurate at estimating size & from what I've seen with other moms & the medical community in my area, they're only increasing induction rates. =/

Unless I was measuring small (not big), the baby's heart rate sounded off, or I was having less movement, we (my midwife & I) didn't see any reason to have one.

A 35 week ultrasound is standard for my OB. I'm surprised to hear so many people don't get an ultrasound after 20 weeks!

My 19 week was supposed to be my last ultrasound. My doctor could feel that he was head down, had dropped, and was a little big during most of the 3rd tri.
At week 35 the baby suddenly measured smaller, so he ordered an ultrasound to find out how big the baby was- it turns out he had just dropped even lower than he already was.

man I didnt realize so few u/s were performed. I got them monthly at the minimum, then bi-weekly, then weekly after 30 weeks, but I have issues that require consistent measurements

I have a growth u/s scheduled for 33 weeks or so. That said, my doc is very ultrasound happy. She does one at every appointment with te hmachine in her office, and she sent me to an imaging centre for my NT scan, anatomy scan and now teh growth one at 33 weeks. I think she just likes to make absolutely sure.

@tequiero21: They can usually tell position pretty easily using just their hands, so one at the end for position isn't necessary.

yeah, usually the 18 - 20 week ultrasound is the last before delivery (which is why getting the gender at that moment is so important... and if you don't wanna know, you have to decide that for sure cuz it's your last chance unless you wanna pay for an elective one). I got a few more with RJ since they were concerned about his measurements. His head was way too big and his leg bones were too short. Obviously the ultrasound techs weren't too familiar with asians... or didn't bother to look at Rob Sr. Big head and short. Haha.

We only got another one if something was wrong.... so you should be glad not to get one! I ended up getting one because LO was measuring big and they wanted to make sure she wasn't too big in case I'd need a c-section.

We;re done at 20 weeks, but I went to the hospital after my accident, so I got one (very fuzzy, wasn't sure what I was looking at) at 28 weeks.

I am 36 weeks and my last ultrasound was at 22 weeks. My OB did tell me they might do one more before birth just to get an idea of the size of the baby. But its not really a necessity for me since everything is fine.

Okay, I don't feel so cheated after seeing your responses :)
I guess the reason why my friend got one at 35 weeks was because they were concerned about the baby's size.

@betsyboop: As far as I know, my 19w ultrasound (anatomy scan) is my last as long as there are no problems. At this point, I have no idea how big the baby is or what position he is (30w!)

I'm thinking there's probably a medical reason why she got one at 35 weeks. My last standard one was at 18 weeks for the anatomy scan. However, we did opt to pay for a ultrasound ourselves at 30 weeks so we can see baby again. Strangely enough the optional one was cheaper than all the other ones!

I think they usually only do late 3rd trimester ones if they are worried about growth, pregnancy complications, placenta position or babies position. I just had (I am 33 weeks) but it is because I have GD, PIH, and measured 38cm at 33 weeks at my last appointment.

I had one around week 35 because my belly was measuring at 38 inches (or something like that). OB wanted to make sure everything was okay in the uterus since my measurements should have been between 33-37.
The baby was so big we didn't really seem much though.

I had my 32 week appointment today and asked my doctor about the 35 week ultrasound, but she told me I wouldn't be getting one! I was surprised because my friend who goes to the same practice had one at 35-36 weeks, so I assumed I would go around then too. I have to say, I'm kind of sad because I was looking forward to seeing the babe one more time before her arrival!
Did any of you have an ultrasound at 35 weeks, or was 20 weeks your last one?
