I'm waiting on my second pump from insurance so that I can leave one set up at home and take one with me. I was debating getting a second Medela PISA, but one of the options was a PJ's Comfort Pump, which I've heard great things about and is supposedly hospital grade.

That's a great idea! I carry a large messenger bag with purse stuff and food in it, a gym bag, and my pump bag. It's a lot to keep up with!

Since I pump in the car, I leave my pump bag and cooler bag in the car, but carrying everything downstairs is ridiculous! I usually have baby in her carseat, her bottle bag, my pump bag, my cooler bag, and my work shirt. Sometimes I also have the laptop in a case too.

@mediagirl: Lucky you! I'm still a mule. My insurance said I'm not eligible because I didn't request a pump in the right timeframe. I haven't followed up, but it's pretty annoying.

@Ms.SK: I requested it in February when my baby was 8 months old. I think about it like this - what if I just went back to work and decided to start pumping? Would I not be eligible for a pump just because I didn't request it within a certain time period? I could understand them not offering it after a year but within a year, I can't see a reason to deny the coverage.

YAY! Its the best thing in the world not to have to carry your whole world with you. i did the same thing. My sister gave me her old pump and I leave that one at home and use my new one at work. I was able to score a free fridge at work too!

Thats awesome! My insurance covers a hospital grade rental for 90 days and I'm considering extending it for that very reason. I have HSA money I can use.

@Ms.SK: I would bet that insurance wouldn't cover a pump for babies born after the qualifying period began but it can't hurt to check. Hygeia (the breast pump company) has a pretty extensive insurance FAQ on their site.

I have a question about your insurance pump - did you all request it within 90 days from birth or do you have older babies that you were able to get a second pump for? I ask because I really need a new pump and the twins are 8 months. The insurance pump wasn't an option when they were born.

I have read that the PIS is only "good" for a year with daily use. I want any chance to save some money.

@mediagirl: I think the worst part about going back to work was having to drag all the bags in and out of the car each day. Luckily my husband packed my pump bag and LO's daycare bag so that was helpful!!

@mediagirl: Thanks for posting! This is a great idea. I have a great medela freestyle that I purchased but now with new insurance changes everyone gets a breast pump so I get another one. I was thinking about re-selling it (sealled) but I may consider keeping it so I dont have to drag that bag to/from work!

Today was the first day I came to work and didn't bring my pump bag because I left it at work! I got a pump through my insurance company (unfortunately, it's not another Medela but, it'll do if I need it) that I can leave at home. So now, I only have to carry one bag (plus a purse) into work with me every day! I feel like less of a pack mule now. :)

It was always interesting carrying in my lunch bag (which is also my cooler bag for pumped milk), purse, pump bag, coffee and smoothie. Now I only have my purse, lunch bag and two drinks. Woohoo! Just thought I'd share. :)
