@Boogs: ooh, the pet store is a great idea. I bet my little one would like that since she loves our dog and enjoys watching fish.

Lots of great suggestions here! For free field trips on hot days maybe you can hang out at the the local library. Many I them also have free activities, not to mention free air conditioning. ;) Also, local pet stores, it's like visiting a tiny zoo for free! ;)

My LO is 5 mo and I struggle with the same thing, but I work away from home 3 days a week, so I'm only home with her 2 days/wk.

Her activities are basically the same as what others have mentioned:
-Exercise mat
-Tummy time
-Singing songs (her fav is Old MacDonald followed by Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes)
-Sitting in high chair and watch the fish in the aquarium
-Sitting in the high chair in the kitchen with toys on the tray
-Laying out on the deck and watching the trees
-Sitting in the bumbo outside and playing with small bowls of water. She usually smacks them or dumps them on herself but seems to enjoy it.
-Jumperoo (either insidee or on the deck) - she's been able to use it since about 4.5 mo (we have the FP rainforest one)
-Swing
-Sitting in front of the mirror and making faces
-Photoshoots
-Singing along/dancing around with a kids' cd
-LO "helps" me throw toys for the dog
-Walks with the dog
-Reading books
-Baths
-Errands
-Breastfeeding support group on Tuesdays
-Playdates (more for me than her) with moms groups (via meetup.com). They've been great... everyone has been so nice and I've met a lot of moms with babies the same age as my LO. Some activities are scheduled for museums and stuff that I think is too old or her, but there are lots of meetups at people's houses and those are usually good for her. Some are even for babies only.

ETA: I forgot a few more...
-we do this thing I nicknamed "triathlon" (since DH and I are triathletes) where she lays on her back and I hold her feet and move them in a kicking, cycling, and then a running motion. Then I throw her arms up and tell her she's won. She thinks that's hilarious.
-I do baby bench presses... put her on my chest and then extend my arms straight. I do at least 10. She also thinks that's hilarious. I also do baby log rolls... that's kind of hard to describe but I saw it on some Gymboree type show... so maybe Google or look on YouTube for Mommy and Me type activities?

At that age my baby was still pretty content to go about my life with me. So, we went to the museum, the mall, playdates where I hung with mommy friends or relatives, to mommy and me movies, for long walks, tons of stuff like that. She'd hang with me while I ate in cafes just in the moby wrap. It was pretty chill. She was old enough to start grabbing at toys in the infant area of the children's museum, too, so we went there with other mommies a lot.

After about 6 months she got a little too wiggly and opinionated to just go about my business - and that was kind of a hard time for me. She wouldn't just sit quietly in a cafe or the museum any more, but she was way too young for a park or the science museum. Also it was winter and too rainy to hang around outside much. That was kind of a lame period.

He has a good time and it motivates him to sit up.

Lady M is 5 months and in the mornings we read and she plays on her mat. Want to start using the jumper now too. I'll take her to nursery rhyme time at the library on Weds. and other days we'll do errands or just walk around the mall or outside. I'm also in a bunch of new mom meetup groups so we've gone to some nice meetups at the park or lunch and things like that. I'm going to enroll her into a music class this summer.

@wheres_c: We'll go early, like 9...And then nanny brings her around then too...And we pretty much go every day at around 6 or 630. DH and I bring cocktails and walk her around the neighborhood:) It's very tolerable...But I'd never go in the middle of the day, she'd overheat for sure!

@hilsy85: I am going insane.....he doesn't really get cranky though.
I wish we could walk but its so humid and there are no sidewalks. We walked in the mall yesterday.
I think once we start solids that will give us somethingelse to do.

@PrincessBaby: isn't it too hot to walk outside? I felt like I was dying yesterday. He actually doesn't get cranky but I do! I need to get stuff done. I bought this cool walker thing but it doesn't work on the carpet and our kitchen is tiny. :( I think the fact that we don have a yard doesn't help.

@Running Elley: LO only tolerates about 15 min in the jumperoo too....hopefully he will start lasting longer soon. I can't wait for him to sit up, I think that will ell.

@Mrs. Tricycle: great ideas! Thanks so much. I'm not a morning person, but walks in the evening with SO would be nice.
When I last checked on story time around 3 months he was too young but I think they started at 6 months. Will look again.
We don't have a yard or deck but I do want to start swimming lessons soon. Was hoping to figure out where we were going to live first but maybe I should just get started.
That link is great-thanks a,

@rawrasaur: I wish we had visitors! I have SAHM friends in Austin so really hoping to mov there!
I was so excited to start solids and our high chair we ordered is missing a piece. So annoyed!

She is really content with independent play, but she also takes multiple naps totaling 3-4 hours/day so it is hard to say. Once you start solids that could be a good little chunk of time taken care of :-) I just let her play with the food and make a mess. For the rest of the day I just move her from spot to spot: jumperoo, pack n play with like 5 toys, activity gym. We go on walks, talk to her about what we are doing, do a lot of singing and "dancing", practice skills like sitting, and have visitors from time to time.

Hummm...we're almost at 6 months. How about:

* Take walks EARLY in the morning and LATE in the evening -- the days are so much longer that maybe it'd be bright enough and cool enough to walk at 7:00 AM or 8:00 PM?

* Go to story time at your local library. He probably won't "get it" but at least you're out of the house and hanging with other moms?

* If it's hot, can you find a public pool? Does your city/town have a free place to swim or a place with cheap admission every day? I hear babies take GREAT naps after swimming. Maybe buy a cheap plastic pool for your yard or deck?

* Can you put a phone book or couch cushion underneath the jumperoo so his feet touch?

* I always resort to this BabyCenter list of ideas when I get desperate. I like that they're organized by month: http://www.babycenter.com/0_lets-play-weekly-activities-for-your-babys-first-year_1501475.bc

LO is 7 months but we do a lot of the same things that we did at 6 months. He takes 3 naps a day and during his awake time I let him play on the floor with his toys (since he started sitting up he'll sit and play for awhile because he can reach for/grab/play with toys), eat solids, play in the highchair with kitchen toys while mama cooks, go on walks, run errands, put a blanket in the backyard and play on that (he LOVES being outside), read books (usually when he's starting to get tired...he pays more attention that way).

ETA: He also plays in the jumperoo, the door jumper and the walker. He's only happy in those for a while (10-15 minutes max) at a time.

You poor thing!!! If H goes longer than 2 hours w/o a nap, she turns into a monster! Is he perfectly happy not napping or does he torture you with crankiness? I really feel for you!

we use jumperoo, tummy time- but that is getting pretty wild bc she rolls all around the floor- and go for walks. She is a super duper fanbof being outside and in the stroller. Also she looooooves the dog so I will put her in the snugabunny chair and throw the little ball w/the dog while she CRACKS UP and squeals her head off:) I will also put her in the bumbo with the tray table and let her play w/several toys on the table. Which can be painful bc she throws them everywhere and I have to replace them 14 milion times:). She also loves me singing to her...ABCs is especially hilarious, I'm not sure why!

Sometimes we do photo shoots if we're bored- haha. She is a HAM and loves it;). I sing ABCs to her and get her to smile and laugh for every pic!

I saw this thing at Walmart called a walk around I think? If we werent about to move I thought about getting one of those as another entertainment option...But it's just more crap to move!

At that age Lo took 3/4 naps a day...while awake we would read books, use the exersaucer/jumperoo, and I would sing songs to him. Lots of tummy time and working in sitting. We also started solids at 5 month and did them 2x per day which took up some time. And we go out on lots of walks.

But if my Lo were up 14 hour a day with no naps I would go absolutely insane and he would be miserable to be around. Good luck with the naps!

I am at home with my 5 mo all day and find it hard to fill our day.
He wakes around 7am and is awake until about 9pm with no naps (we are working on that).
We mostly play with his stuffed animals and read books but he is too little for the jumperoo and too big for his gym.
Our mommy and me class ended and I don't want to sign up/pay for a new one until I know where we will be living.

I feel in a rut. I had a great day yesterday taking him to the mall but definately can't afford that, and its too hot to be outside.

Suggestions?
What is your daily routine?
What activities/toys does your LO enjoy?
