LO turned 1 last week. We dropped all of her daytime bottles, but she still gets formula first thing in the morning and one at bedtime. Those are going to be tough to break! We have about half a can of formula left, then we will wean her off these also.

@stargal: We would offer either/both. Out of the house we'd take a sippy of milk with us, although now we use little shelf-stable milk boxes since they don't spoil.

I think you need to ask the pedi how much cow's milk your child should have daily, and adjust your snack/milk ratio based on that.

Not stupid questions at all! Logistics are everything :)

LO is 14 months and still has a bottle at bedtime and nap time. I am trying to get him off the bedtime bottle first and then hope he naturally quits the nap time bottle. I can't do nap first because of daycare, they won't let him cry it out at nap time. I'm hoping my the end of the month we will be done. 18 months is my max and I will take it away cold turkey if we have to. He eats enough other dairy that he doesn't need that much milk.

When we are out I just keep snacks in my purse or the diaper bag and a straw cup of water. I usually have either cheerios or puffs, yogurt melts, dried fruit, or a puree pouch.

12 months. I would put a small sippy of milk on the high chair at meals and let them figure out when to start using it. That way it was on their terms. I also started this by at the very latest 9months as to give them time to make the transition themselves.

@stargal: our doctor told us 12 months. Leading up to that I started replacing one bottle at a time with either more food or a cup of milk... it was a lot easier than I expected

At 14 mths, M still does bottles (whole milk) at wake up and bedtime and an occasional bottle of milk during the day. She does have a sippy cup of water during the day that she drinks from. I'm having a hard time transitioning her to a sippy cup of milk b/c she likes it lukewarm and will not drink cold milk. We have her 15 mth wellness visit next month and I know the ped is going to talk about weaning her from the bottle.

We were done at one year, but I still nurse him a couple times a day. He doesn't really drink much milk, which my pediatrician says is totally fine, as long as he's eating enough (he eats a ton). He drinks mostly water out of a sippy.

I should add she was MSPI so that's why I'm choosing to slowly introduce the milk. Cold turkey is not recommended for baby's who have dairy issues.

@TurtleDoves: thats a good plan! i alrady plan to go cold turkey with the milk at 12 months. thinking i might ditch the bottle at 11 months and give him a month with sippys with formula.

We're aiming for 12m. I plan to give him the sippy all the time starting at 10m but having the bottle available. But at 12m, I'd be willing to go cold turkey-no bottle

We were off the bottle at 1 year which I believe is ideal. We gave the sippy of milk whenever... at meals or between, whichever he wanted.

Does he drink water out of a sippy now?

We introduced a straw sippy with water around 7.5 months. At 12.5 months we started mixing milk in her bottles. She's 13 months now and tomorrow we will be doing 1oz formula/4oz milk. I don't plan to bottle wean till she is completely on milk.
She also started getting milk at meals in her take and toss at meals/snack times when we're home around 12.5 months as well.

im getting really really overwhelmed with thinking about getting P off the bottle, he's almost 11 months. im not worried about him drinking milk (he likes little sips) but getting him to ditch the bottle and use a sippy is gonna be a challenge!

also do you introduce the sippy of milk with meals or give it inbetween like what you do with bottles/formula?
