She's been in daycare 5 days a week since she was 11 weeks old but started crying every morning for a while. She also gets really anxious around people, even her grandparents, who she sees fairly often. She's always afraid Mommy and Daddy are going to leave her with someone if we have a visitor, even though they've been watching her since she was a newborn.</p> <p>She's 21 months now, and things have improved some, but she's still not as happy around other people as she used to be. And 2 of those times are probably when I dropped her off (DH usually does it). And this is also her first week in a new classroom so I don't know why it didn't occur to me that would be a reason. It's just weird that she didn't cry the very first day in the new classroom. It just depends on what he is going through developmentally at the time. Sometimes it's only a few days, other times it's weeks or months (he is 5 years old now). My first - almost every day in infant and toddler, for 6 weeks after transitioning to young preschool, and 4-6 times over the past 9 months in preschool. With the exception of transitions, it always stopped as soon as I left.</p> <p>My second - in the past 13 months of infant/toddler care, 4 times ever. </p> <p>I learned to discuss changes in rooms, even with a 12 month old. The last time was at 15 months. It lasted about 2 weeks and he was ok. I talk to him about school and what we do when we get there "we will go inside to your classroom and hang up your coat and backpack. Then I will give you a kiss and say bye bye" I never lingered- just kiss, I'll see you after snack. bye bye, I love you. And walk out. I think if I was upset by he crying, it would make his reaction worse. It may end up being an everyday occurrence for a little while, but I would try not to worry about it, especially if the teachers say that she cheers up after you leave (this is always what happened to us). I think DD's longest stint lasted a couple months, towards the end of my pregnancy with DS, and that was the hardest since she would physically not let go of my legs and the teachers had to drag her off me every day. In fact, she normally can't wait to get out of the car seat and start playing!</p> <p>Today, for the first time ever, she cried. My husband had to just leave her there crying. Is this the start of an everyday occurrence? Or a one-off thing? Nine months old seems so young to be starting this behavior! Especially since daycare 5 days a week is her norm! </p>
