First time my son had a babysitter was around 5 months, once a week for a few hours so I could get errands done. We've had the same sitter now for a year.

@chopsuey119: yeah, I have heard that many babies won't take a bottle from their moms if they are breastfed, and that it's best to have someone else give the bottle to avoid them rejecting the breast, it's an association thing.

@miss-spunkin: Really? About the BF babies getting bottles? I EBF and gave my LO a bottle for the 2 months of her life. It made life a bit easier since LO was literally on my boob 24/7. The bottle (pumped milk) got her full and satisfied and helped her sleep longer!
She started rejecting the bottle at 2-3 months though and hasn't taken one since. She just turned 1 and I'm still nursing.

Oh. I think every baby's different, but there's a period between 2-3 months where breastfed babies will reject bottles if you give them the opportunity!

And seriously. You don't realize how old you're getting until you see LOs you used to know all grown up..!

@chopsuey119: I have left him with DH so I could get my nails done and run errands, but I fed him right before I left and wasn't gone lone. That's the only time. I have been meaning to have DH give him a bottle (I've heard BF-ing moms aren't supposed to give their babies bottles) but just haven't yet. I didn't realize there was a cutoff date! I will have DH try this weekend then.

I have a few babysitter options, one is a girl I actually babysat when she was little! Makes me feel so old :P

I don't think it's a bad idea. I actually think it's good to give your LO his first bottle before the crucial 2-3 month mark and he rejects it.

Not sure about the babysitter unless you know the person and trust them!

We left LO with my mom the week she was born to grab some food. (Mom was staying with us). I think the first time we left LO for real was when she was 10 months old. Even then, we left her after she went down for the night.

When did you first have a babysitter take LO?

I was going to have my mom take LO because we got invited to game night with some friends next weekend. But she is busy. I was considering getting a babysitter, but LO will only be 7 weeks and we've never left him alone before. We haven't even given him a bottle ever.

Is it a bad idea?
