I was probably around 6 or so when I learned the basics like scrambled eggs, steaming veggies, and boiling pasta. We always went the grandma's house after school, so we never even had a chance to cook for ourselves until we were deemed old enough to stay home alone. I would say somewhere around 12-13. Even then, we only really made ramen or scrambled eggs and it wasn't very often.
