At 14 months we coloured on our sliding doors with window writers. He never put them in his mouth or tried to colour elsewhere.</p> <p>He also has a general preference for markers and can colour for long periods of time if he's in the mood. He has never really been interested in crayons and I don't really have to worry about him decorating our house with marker. Plus, Crayola markers wash off so easily so it doesn't bother me if it gets on his hands (often) or clothes (very rare).</p> <p>ETA: we have an aquadoodle that he got for his 1st birthday and it's never interested him much. He would make marks on the paper, but didn't start scribbling till a little while later. We introduced sidewalk chalk outside around 19 months. He only colors for about 30-60 seconds, and then he usually throws the crayons on the floor. Now she's better about making lines - but I think they do it at daycare too, so she gets lots of practice.
