Ideally we want to have quite a bit of disposable income when we're retired to travel and such.</p> <p>If we were willing to settle for a much less elaborate retirement life, we could probably retire at around 40-ish easily. We are currently 26 and we'll be finished paying off our current home in just 2 more years, so if we wanted to just live here forever we'd basically be set... but we have rather larger plans than that. We'll probably end up semi-retiring at around 55 (like DH's father. I would like to stop working full time by the time I’m in my 50’s which is very doable since our home will be paid off, we’ll own other income producing investment property that will be paid off, I’ll have 25+ years of 401k contributions, LO will be in college and that should be mostly paid for and my husband plans to teach well into his 70’s, so we would also have his income.
