Both have really cute kids areas you just need to watch for field trips, so 2-4 is a great time to aim for if it isn't nap time. She had a blast, for an hour or so, especially the bubble exhibit. Then took LO to the Reuben Fleet Science Center (San Diego) at 2 1/2 years and they have a huge preschool/toddler section that is similar to a children's museum but with gears, conveyor belts and suction vacuums. That lasted over 2 hours and she was very independent. The demonstration was computerized helicopters to music so very appropriate for all ages. If we added a movie in it would have been a lot longer. We've usually gone in the afternoon after his nap--he's usually up by 1/130 so still plenty of time, where as he is asleep by 1130, and most things don't open til 10 or so, so it would feel rushed! And most of our classes are in the morning. There is just so much for them to look at. Nanny LO preferred the Boston science museum to children's museum and the aquarium. The first time we went she was a little past 1 year. We would have gone sooner but that's how old when we moved there. She LOVED running down the long hallway, looking/ touching the exhibits, and seeing all the big kids.
