@winniebee: when Chloe whines (which is like, all the tiiiime), I say "I'm so sorry, Chloe, it's hard to understand you when you whine. Let's get our wiggles out & try again!" then we do the wiggle dance.

Thought this past weekend she said, "I WANT MY WIGGLES IN! I LIKE BEING CRANKYYYYY!" so I guess it backfires.

I would pick three but it might have to do with my personality. In the 2's it always seemed like they just couldn't communicate (telling me something and listening). I could deal with those types of fits much better than the willful testing and disobedience. As they get older they know exactly what they are doing and it drives me absolutely nuts! The tantrums were bigger and more explosive but it wasn't as often.

3 is tougher in the sense that my LO seems to be testing/challenging me so much more, plus all that whining. BUT I'll take the whining over the tantrums, which she has mainly seemed to have grown out of, and if she does have 1 now, I can snap her out of it way easier now than at 2.

LO turns 3 next month and I feel like she's getting easier. Shes so independent, which makes life easier and she still has fits but is much more self aware than she used to be so is easier to reason with or understanding after the fit has passed.

I'm not sure! We are rounding the corner to 3 and the past year has just been progressively challenging. I fully expect 3 to be hard if for no other reason than she will have a new sibling. I'm scared and expect to bury my head in the sand.

@littlek: Toddlerease and the Fast Food Rule has made communicating with LO so much easier at almost 2. Everything is still pretty much a question, but he feels that he's understood better than before it. Harvey Karp's saved our sanity a bit throughout early toddler hood.

ETA: this could also go in the other toddler thread. Not fully caffeinated yet.

I hope 3. Though, two isn't terrible. LO is completely capable of expressing herself, but she still has the immaturity of a two year old (duh). I'm hoping that at 3 she'll be able to reason a bit more and maybe even play by herself a bit more. She's very much an extrovert. I'm not. Our days are exhausting to me just from her talking nonstop. Who knows... We need to get through 2 first!

The problems get a little weirder as they get older. I find myself trying to have a conversation with a kid who's bent on getting his way and doesn't quite yet respond to logic or reason.

For my son, the span from 2 to 3 was a time when there was a lot of change, so naturally, I expected him to be a bit difficult, which he was.

It depends on the kids I think. We have friends that were hard in the twos, easier in the threes and vice versa.

For us the 3's were way tougher. 2's were a breeze. Olive is still in her 2's so I don't know what her 3's have in store for us!
