I didn't introduce one until we trained her at 27 months. She seemed to know what to do, having seen us sit on toilets before

They started introducing it at daycare at 18 months or so. He didn't really use until after two though. At 27 months or so we got toilet seats as well. He potty trained himself (day and night at once) at 30months. I honestly believe the early and constant exposure made it easy for him because he just wasn't scared etc.

For my son, we got one around 26 months and trained at 30 months.

For my DD, the potty has been in the bathroom forever, she knows what it is and what it is for and even expresses interest sometimes. But we haven't started training yet (she's 26 months).

I don't think it really matters until you are ready to start training. My daughter is currently not interested in training, so we are just waiting it out.

Never did a little one. I think around 21 months we started sitting her on the toilet before bath.

We were just talking about this too! I'm fascinated by American notions of potty because I think traditionally in Korea they introduce the concept of potties quite early even if the full process takes a long time. But I think a lot of it is correlated to when kids become more verbal or understand basic commands better. I'm virtually certain that before my brother and I were two our grandmothers and mom put us on the potty regularly while making shhhh sounds to encourage us to try peeing. I think the time they always start with is first thing in the AM before breakfast. But DH and I haven't figured out when we want to try yet. Maybe once Sam begins talking a bit more. All I know is our preferred preschool won't take kids who aren't potty trained so we would reallllly like him to be ready before the age of 3!

I honestly wouldn't bother until you are going to start training. I wouldn't want my LO to associate the potty with something that is OK to do sometimes. I believe I got this philosophy from Oh Crap Potty Training.

Probably your LO has seen you use the potty and will start to put it together especially if you tell LO what you are doing, which is another strategy OCPT recommends.

My DD2 just turned 17 months and I've brought out our floor potty for almost 2-3 weeks? I don't set heron it or anything yet. But she's interested in us going potty so I thought it doesn't hurt to get her familiar. In a few weeks I might start setting her on it at bathtime.

When did you introduce a training potty? (The little ones that sit on the floor.)
We are almost at 17 months and it occurred to me that it might not be too far away. Is it crazy to get one to leave in his bathroom? I got some potty books for Valentine's Day :-) Figure it's never to early to at least start those.

Obviously I don't expect him to use it right away! But to start having it around and getting familiar...thoughts?
