Why are people so awful, such a sick world! </p> <p>Probably 2-3 years old. I was never supervised and was told to be home before it got dark. I also remember walking home in kindergarten and having to cross 2 busy streets. Thankfully, both streets had crossing guards during designated school hours. Looking back so many things could have gone wrong! Though the kitchen window overlooked our yard and mum would keep an eye out. At 5 I was allowed to ride my bike around the neighborhood and down to the local park with the other kids in my area. My sister was 4 and we were able to play unsupervised then. Before that we lived in the middle of the city and were not allowed outside without supervision. By the time I was 5 or 6 I was allowed to walk to my grandma's house alone. She lived only maybe 200 yards up the street, but I did have to cross the street and there were no sidewalks (rural area). My mom would say "never"!</p> <p>ETA: A 6 year old boy went missing from my neighborhood on July 4, 1981 and he was ultimately found molested and killed. He had walked up the street to get fireworks. Police helicopters hoovered around blasting his name that whole day. That was shortly before I was born and basically sealed my fate of supervised play for my entire life. I couldn't even walk to school in high school and the schools were in my neighborhood. I will likely be the exact same way with my own kids and I live in basically the most safe, ideal bedroom community of all time. So sad, but its a sick world.
