I remember wearing all the fun sparkly lip glosses & chapsticks from Bonnie Bell in middle school but didn't wear full make-up (besides dance) until high school. I think helping your 12 year old to cover up a pimple or letting her play with some eye shadow at home is okay but that's very different then allowing or encouraging make-up everyday, etc

I think we'll wait till our invisible, future-daughter is in high school. Even then, I'd like it to be in moderation. My parents were pretty strict when I was growing up and my dad was especially strict about wearing make-up. In high school, my older sister and I started wearing some, but no dark eyeliner (or dark/black fingernail polish either), no thick lipstick (lipgloss was fine), no full face foundation. Now I'm really grateful for my dad's rules because I have a really nice complexion. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I like to think it's because I never clogged up my pores with thick make-up as a kid.

I've always played with my moms makeup here and there. She always allowed me to wear her lipstick. But I didn't really start wearing makeup til college. I could've used some eyebrow plucking much early on though. For my daughter, probably high school, she can start.

In jr. high I was allowed to wear cover up (hello zits!). I was allowed to wear makeup in high school....but it was always subject to my mother's approval. I didn't ever wear much. I thought it was a fair rule and would implement it too if we ever have a daughter.

I say 16 and even then its going to be very minimal. I started wearing makeup when I was about 16 and even then it was just eye shadow and lip gloss

I was 13, and even then only wore a little. I remember my mom took me to the Estee Lauder Counter and made sure I knew what I was doing. So I will probably do the same type of thing, also making it a good bonding experience rather than the first of many teenage rebellions :)

I started fiddling with makeup in the 7th grade, and had a system by the 8th grade so I'm sure I'll do the same for my daughter. One thing my mom did for my sister and I was took us to a spa for a makeup lesson with the MUA. She taught us how to properly apply makeup at an early age so we avoided the overdone teenager phase all together.

i think some lip gloss or so during jhs is okay. no eye makeup or blush or anything like that.... unless she's in a play or something that requires it.

I'll probably buy her first make up and first heals for her bat mitzvah. I wore make up in middle school so I'm ok with her doing the same.

I wanted to wear purple eyeliner when I was in 7th grade. That was okay by my mom, so she allowed it. I never wore a full face until I started working, and even then I just did concealer/foundation and blush. I never got into eye makeup.

If we have a daughter, I'd say not earlier than 13. That seems like a good rite of passage.

Not until high school and then I'll discourage from wearing much. Some of these college kids around me wear so much I feel like they give themselves makeup caking wrinkles.

Definitely not until high school. If I have girls I hope they don't like to wear heavy make up. I don't ever want them to feel like they can't be seen without "their face" on.

At my middle school, 6th graders weren't allowed to wear any, in fact they made you take it off if they busted you. I was allowed to wear some makeup, like mascara, in 7th grade so I might be okay with that as long as it wasn't a FULL face of makeup.

I didn't start wearing make up until I was 18. I only put eyeliner on. I still only wear eyeliner.

I was reading a gossip mag and saw a pic of Johnny Depp's 12 year old daughter with a lot of makeup on, making her look older than she was.

I started dabbling with makeup when I was a sophomore in high school, and started wearing lipstick regularly as junior.

I don't think I would want my daughter to wear makeup before she was in high school. She should enjoy her youth! I would give anything to look like how I did in high school sans makeup now. Alas now I need makeup when I didn't back then.

When do you think is an appropriate age to start wearing makeup?
