We had this exact same problem at 12 months. I hate to say it but the only thing we could do was wait it out.

We are going through this somewhat too. I will say that with my son, the lower molars didn't bother him much but the uppers have been killer. Does it look like those are starting to push out? I would do motrin before bed and then again if he wakes up during the night if it's been 6 hours or so. Lately I've noticed that if he can't get back to sleep and is tossing and turning, it's that something is really bothering him, not just that he's being a pill.

its the 12 month sleep regression. you're not doing anything wrong...you just have to ride it out, unfortunately.

12 months is a huge age for regression due to major physical and mental milestones. Hang in there!

@ScarletBegonia: I've been trying to space it that he's awake at least 3 hours before bedtime, but he's done some late naps lately...I should probably stop those and see if it helps

.@CakeLady: @gilmoregirl: @Grace: Is it bad I feel a teeny bit happy I'm not the only one? It's helpful to hear that this is a stage and "this too shall pass." And very soon (please God, please).

@BabyBoecksMom: He's learning to walk, so that and the molars probably aren't helping the situation. I'm going to try some Advil tonight for his teeth and see if it helps.

Thanks everyone, and here's hoping we all get better sleep soon!

Has he gone through any new milestones? If not, it sounds, to me, like it's the molars that are bothering him, because that's what my youngest does when she's cutting them.

Oh, that happened to me too. You aren't doing anything wrong. They are learning to walk and talk, plus teething. There's a sleep regression/wonder week around that time. It's not fun.

Sorry! I've been in the same boat lately, it is really hard. Teething and an ear infection really messed with DS's sleep recently. He was waking up constantly and doing the same wild thing routine when we brought him in our bed.

The only other thing (which I just realized about DS) is that he may be sleeping too much or too late in the day and isn't tired enough at bed time. Though I am by no means an expert in sleep...

My son is only 10 months and I think going through a bit of a regression, but I have found when he gets close to or more than 4 hrs of day sleep, his night sleep suffers, and also when he doesn't have enough awake time before bedtime. We've been keeping him up later lately and he's mostly been STTN. Not sure if the same applies to your older baby. Good luck!!

LO is 12 months old. Up until a few weeks ago, he consistently either STTN from 7pm - 6:30a.m., or would wake up at 4:30 am to eat and sleep until 7:30 a.m.

The past few weeks have been crazy. He wakes up during the night and screams and cries no matter what I try to do to get him back down, and even if I bring him into bed with us, he rolls around and is up for 2 hours. Then he is still wakes up for the day at 6 a.m. and is clearly exhausted. He naps 2 hours in the morning and then 1.5 hours in the afternoon.

He is getting molars in, and all have broken through except the upper ones, and he doesn't seem overly bothered at this point. We have tried moving bedtime back and forward and no difference. Is this a stage? Does it end soon? Should I prevent him from napping so much? Move bedtime way up or back again? Help.
