We always make sure we push that purple piece down, then when we screw the cap everything is aligned and there is no space. Like, there is the stainless steel cup, the cap, straw, then there is a piece that goes over the cup at the bottom of the screw part? I'm describing it badly, but if I don't push that all the way down before screwing on the top, it leaks. It seals up perfectly and keeps things ice cold for hours.
