@mrsmate: I'm fine for the remaining weeks of my pregnancy and delivery, as I'm currently insured through my job. I'm just trying to find a cheaper option for LO, because adding her to our plan will be more expensive that I imagined.

Unfortunately, we do not qualify for state health insurance, unless I'm missing something. We're in California, and there are plenty of programs, but the income bracket is low. We're in a grey area-we make too much for assistance, but make too little to pay super high premiums.

Does your state or city offer any health insurance for children and their moms? It should be cheaper than buying an individual plan for your baby on the open market.

Both DH and I are on identical, employer sponsored PPO plans. Our bosses pay our individual monthly premiums, so we stay on separate coverage plans.

I just got a quote from my insurance rep, and to add LO, it will cost about $400 a month. It will cost the same on DH's plan, maybe a *tiny* bit less. I'm planning to go part-time once my maternity leave is up, and the premium amount, in addition to part-time childcare costs, and my husband's new work commute are just going to drag us through the ringer.

What are my options? Can I get LO a separate plan? I've seen some basic, Blue Shield plans for $133 a month, but can you throw an individual baby on their own coverage plan?

Anyone else go through this? What did you do?

Thanks!
