In the infant room all the kids are on thier own schedule. Each crib has its own "cubby" in the main room with separate light controls. Some parents provide white noise machines. Our LO seems to nap fine there. We started her napping in areas with light and noise from the beginning though. Dark and quiet was reserved for night time sleep.

@daniellemybelle: It depends on the age of the child and what room they are in. In the toddler room there is one naptime and the lights are dimmed and they play sleepy lullabies.
In the infant room, they do not dim the lights because the babies all have different nap schedules, they do put babies in swings or boppies or in their crib depending on the request of the parent but they dont really have a set quiet time in the infant room

LO goes to an in-home daycare and she has her own pack 'n play set up in the nanny's bedroom. During nap time, it is dark and the white noise machine is on. The other infant has his own PNP in the room as well, he sleeps best in the same environment so it works for both of them.

In the infant room, they nap in daylight, with noise going on. Sometimes she would wake up because a kid would start screaming right by her crib. :( She never napped well in the infant room. Once she moved to the ones room, they all nap at the same time and now she takes 2 hour naps every day in the dark, quiet room on a mat!

My daycare has a separate room with all the cribs - the lights are off, the blinds are closed, so it's semi-dark in there. They also have white noise. Sometimes when I show up and Xander's napping, he'll be in his crib. Other times, he'll just be asleep in a swing/on the floor in the main room.

I know that they'll try to put him down in his crib, but sometimes he just hates missing out on the action and wants to be in the main room. Then they'll put him in a swing and he'll just fall asleep on his own.

R is still in the infant room, so the rooms in the same room but they are all off to the side. The lights are still on but dimmer. We have brought in a sound machine that they can put under her crib. Right now she is on a crib nap strike and will only nap in the swing, and it has to be one swing. But they still try and get her in the crib like she was doing.

I don't know about infant rooms, but at the daycare I worked at (2's and up), the lights were off and a soothing CD was playing (usually nature sounds). At the daycare we are using, the infants sleep with the lights on since everyone is on their own schedule.

LO goes to a home care and there are several bedrooms designated as sleeping areas. A small amount of light peeks through even though the curtains are drawn, quiet, toddlers nap on a cot with blankets tucked around them. It works well!

All the lights are off, and there is music/sound machine on.

It isn't completely dark as there is a room next door that is lit (for the kids to play in if they wake up early).

There is one set nap time from 12-2:30 (though they've put LO down as early as 11:30 when the lights are still on). The daycare only accepts babies from the 1 year mark.

My son is older and he naps on a little cot in full light. They don't dim the room at all. He also sleeps with his shoes on.

I was kind of shocked when I saw it, because I was a lunatic about making the room dark and keeping it quiet, white noise, etc, etc.

@bunnylove08's post about the issues she's having at her daycare made me think of this, but I didn't want to hijack her thread!

She mentioned that she told them her daughter naps best in dark and quiet. That of course makes sense to me! While you can't simulate a totally dark, quiet nursery at daycare, I always figured that daycares would do their best to set up a good napping environment for kiddos that need rest. However, it sounds like maybe babies are expected to nap wherever they are, and with whatever is going on? Sounds like a recipe for poor rest :(

What is it like at your daycare?
