@mrbee: we give him Rice Dream Organic because that's what we stock at home (my husband uses rice/almond milk for cereal). We give him the vanilla flavor so it's tasty for him in case the rice milk itself tastes weird.

I would think the honey works for night coughs as well. It just helps coat and soothe the throat. My doctor said honey is actually better than any cold/cough medication for coughs.

@mrbee: Are there any juices that Charlie likes? Maybe that would help with the throwing up more than a milk alternative?

Whenever we are sick (haven't tried it on LO yet because he's too young) we make a tea out of fresh lemon and honey and it always soothes our coughs. If I remember correctly, doesn't Charlie like the sour of lemon?

@BoogieBea: Charlie only coughs in the middle of the night... would warm water + honey during the day help with that?

@mrbee: Warm water with honey helps with the cough. My son didn't like the taste of it but i would spoon feed it to him while he's distracted with videos.

We do rice milk. I would try soy but my son can't drink soy. It definitely helped for us when we stayed away from dairy.

@artbee: Yah if it were our four month old, we'd definitely call!

I guess I lost faith in doctors' knowledge of day-to-day mom stuff when Bee asked a doctor about milk supply supplements, and he hadn't heard of Fenugreek. For medical issues, we always go to our doc. But for day-to-day tips and tricks, I usually start with other parents?

That said, we did take Charlie to the doctor last week b/c he had so many small maladies (a rash, a lingering cough, and red eyes )! We thought they might be related, but the doctor said that they weren't. We thought Charlie was over his cough (and he was!) but he has been coughing and throwing up again so maybe not. If it keeps up, we'll definitely be taking him back soon!

@mrbee: We are still at that stage where we call the doctor for everything. I figure we don't have to take their advice if we don't like it, but it's always good to know.

@artbee: I dunno... sometimes I feel like certain things are best answered by Doctor Mom? :-)

If Charlie doesn't get better soon though, we will definitely be visiting the doctor again!

A lot of people rave about the taste of almond milk but I wonder if it's the fat that's irritating his tummy and he needs clearer liquids like pedialyte for a bit.

Charlie is sick and pretty much only drinking milk, but he also throws it up a decent amount.

Any suggestions for milk alternatives? Someone mentioned rice milk - has anyone tried that? What about other milk alternatives like soy or otherwise... are those less likely to cause him to throw up?
