Dogs - any kind. He sees one, screams dog! Dog! And makes a beeline for it. See example below. :silly:

Also noses. He loves to reach out and point to them. And water - he'd be great in the desert because he seems to DNS water to splash in anywhere.

My daughter was utterly obsessed with wearing the kitchen gloves we use to do the dishes, and would wear them out and about (to daycare, to the playground, etc.). Eventually we figured out that she just wanted to wear long gloves like Elsa did in Frozen!

You guys are too funny! I love reading these!!

@ms.line: HAHAHA I really really crack up when I was reading that! Let's see if my son will grow up to be a charming, well-adjusted man with a master's degree and a long term girlfriend as well . I would not mind that at all :D !!

@pinkcupcake: that's hilarious!

@lamariniere: That reminds me of myself when I was a kid- my parents had these funky wallpapers that has some sort of stuck out "texture" to it... very hard to explain. I was obsessed on using my nails to remove all of those things! Now my parents house still has that wallpaper but they are completely flat now. haha!

@Anagram: My son used to be obsessed with buckles too! But that phase seem to have phased out for us!

She used to be obsessed with buckles, but that's calmed down quite a bit. From 1-2 years old, she would go up to other people's empty strollers at the park and just stand there, buckling and unbuckling the straps! I'm like....there are slides and swings here and you just want other people's strollers?

Ceiling fans. I guess it is like a huge mobile? We sometimes have to turn them off when she eats or she'll get distracted. She's only 4 weeks so she probably just likes the dark/white contrast.

DS just learned to crawl about a month ago. For the last week or so, he obsessed with sitting in our bathroom on the floor (especially loves it when DH is taking a shower) lol

My almost two year old loves rocks, especially very tiny ones. She likes to find them outside and carry them around, and if we don't watch her like a hawk, she will eventually put them in her mouth. I have no idea why she does this and it drives me nuts.

She also seems to love shoes. I'm ok with that obsession.

Broken cars. Lol. I have no idea why but about a month ago, she became fascinated by cars on the side of the highway. Now whenever she sees a stopped car on the side of the road, she gets suuuuper excited and loves to point out every broken car she sees. She's 3.5 ;)

@twodoghouse: I like that he's wearing shoes, but no clothes.

Hair. It's definitely lessened, but for awhile there I worried he would be on Strange Obsessions. He used it like a lovey to fall asleep. It did not help with my post partum hair loss problem!

Spoons. He carries around a plastic baby spoon almost all the time. He'll go over to the drawer where they're kept and try to open it or cry until we get him one. He'll even hold onto it through bath and then in bed. He's gotten a little better in the past couple weeks and we're on vacation this week do he's not begging at the drawer. But as soon as he saw a baggy of his stuff on the table he had to have one.

@irene: @ms.line: I had a thing for gloves when I was younger too. They made me feel fancy! I used to pretend I was an orchestra conductor.

@Mrs. Tiger: So cute!!

DS loves utensils (like spatulas, whisks, etc). I think we will have to hide the utensil crock because he cries through meals until I give him one. He's shockingly accurate with a large utensil though, haha! I should probably not give them to him, but it seems relatively harmless as long as he eats and I'm a pick your battles kind of person. Here he is eating breakfast this morning:

My husband's ear...specifically, his right one. Looks at it, bats at it, eats/licks it. She's 7.5 months, so I'm not worried. If this continues on for the next few years though, I might get concerned!

@Mrs. Tiger: so funny! And cute.

My little brother was TOTALLY obsessed with gloves! At his peak, he literally wore gloves all day with the exception of bathtime. It went on to varying degrees for a couple of years, and my dad definitely joked that he had a glove fetish! FWIW, he's now a charming, well-adjusted 24 year old with a master's degree and a long term girlfriend (although still possibly a secret glove fetish! :silly: )

For maybe 6m around when he was 2, my first son carried a measuring cup around literally everywhere. It's in the pics from my brother's wedding, he wouldn't let go! He never put anything in it just always wanted his "meying cup"

My 2nd son is just barely two and nothing super weird (yet) although he basically asks everyone he meets (or skypes with, etc) to sing him the wheels on the bus song.

For my 3.5 year old, other than the more normal obsession over trains and his night time lovie that he bites on the sleep (still, at 3.5 years old, sigh), he developed a weird obsession over gloves. For the past months, whenever he saw a person wearing gloves, whether it was cleaning, throwing out garbage, preparing food, construction workers doing work, he'd ask, "why does he have gloves on?" I explained it to him a million times, but he still asks about it! The other day I took out his winter gloves, and he is obsessed with putting it on. He even puts gloves on and go to sleep at night. It just cracks me up that one morning I woke him up and saw him had gloves on. I joke to my husband that his son has this glove fetish. haha. Not sure if I should crack up about it or should I worry about it ...!

What about you guys? What are some of your child's strange obsessions? Do you worry about it? Or are we the only weird ones? :)
