I always get three of the a la carte tacos at our favorite restaurant downtown, Red Mesa Cantina -- the duck, shrimp, and pork tacos. And the chips and dips for an appetizer, it's a trio of guac, queso, and black bean dip. Or sometimes I'll get the chicken quesadilla if I'm feeling basic!

@artbee: I think I know the place you're talking about!

I once had something called a "Shame Burger" in Philly...like 1/2lb patty + a big slice of scrapple + a fried egg. The thing was huge, I could only eat half of it!

I don't really have a favorite restaurant, and after reading this thread I feel like a serious food novice, haha! We ate out a lot in Philly but nothing really sticks out as being particularly amazing. The only repeat I've had at a restaurant is the hazelnut crusted tilapia with a lemon basil butter sauce at Carraba's, which we go to with my IL's sometimes. And I don't even particularly like fish!

@prettylizy: Couldn't agree more about The Melting Pot!!! That is just my favorite place to eat, ever... but ONLY if you have 2 hours, ONLY if you're starving, and ONLY if you're kid-less for the night! I always say I just love the cheese and chocolate fondues and could skip the main meal, but the sauces always get me!!! And their salads are great too. We've frequented many a fancy establishment in the city as well as our favorite chain restaurants in the suburbs, but The Melting Pot is still my favorite!!!

I'm going to let my freak flag fly for just a little bit...but you've just pushed the right (wrong?) button!

Some of my favorite restaurant dishes:
sheep's milk mousse with sorrel granite - noma
I actually had dreams about this for 3 days after eating it...weird.
http://goo.gl/1L4WO

Normandy duck with kumquat and castelfranco - Roberta's Pizza, Brooklyn, NY
Tastiest duck I've ever had...perfectly crispy skin, and perfectly cooked meat, aged for quite some time and super tasty
http://goo.gl/uBss5

Spencer Steak - Jocko's in Nippomo, CA
My favorite steak on the west coast...
http://goo.gl/yjB0K

Raw Milk Panna Cotta and Abalone Manresa, Los Gatos CA
just blew me away...
http://goo.gl/ldqRY

Torta di Carne Asada at El Farolito in South San Francisco, CA
they grill the cheesy side of the bread until it's crispy!
http://goo.gl/a1yTP

Gargouillou - Bras
Every great chef of the modern era has been inspired by this dish.
http://goo.gl/r6KIo

Fried Dumpings at Fried Dumpling, NYC
I have no idea why these are so good...but they are, and I can't find anything like them elsewhere.
http://goo.gl/zGa36

I don't know if anyone else has this, but we have Gordon Biersch Brewery. They have a burger called the Farmhouse Burger, which is a burger topped with bacon jam and a fried egg. They serve arugula and tomato on the side and I always get a side of grilled asparagus. It is heavenly! We keep it "Paleo-ish" by not getting cheese or a bun.

@Mrs. Bee: If you like snacking/small plates, have you guys tried Alta yet? We go there every time we are in NYC and everything we've had has been very good. Cool decor too!
http://www.altarestaurant.com/?q=munchies

Both my husband and I LOVE the truffled beef tartare at Back Bay Grill (that’s also our favorite restaurant): http://backbaygrill.com/dinner_menu.htm

The menudo and pozole at Old Town Mexican Café in San Diego. Everything there is amazing, but I’ve never made menudo myself, so I love to get theirs. http://www.oldtownmexcafe.com/menu.html

From our favorite local Italian place, where they make all their pasta and sauces daily, from scratch: http://www.paciarino.com/menu.htm

Lasagne alla Bolognese This traditional dish is from Bologna, lean ground beef, pork, tomato, carrots, onion, garlic, 2 to 3 cooking hours and a grandmother's recipe is what we use for making our Bolognese sauce. In our Lasagna you won't find any ricotta cheese because the original recipe of the lasagna alla Bolognese calls for béchamel sauce and fresh ground parmigiano.

Maccheroni Paesani This is a really loved pasta shape, short and welcoming. We topped them with an imported taleggio cheese sauce, olive taggiasche (only in Liguria you can find this kind of olives, we import those olives directly) and ground black pepper.

Hands down the Angry Mussels at JCT Kitchen. I could make it my meal, except that DH loves them just as much as I do.

Ohh tough call!

I love the Fiocchi Pear and Gorgonzola pasta from Perricone's in Miami

Anything on the brunch menu at Bouchon in Las Vegas - especially quiche, french toast or goat cheese salad.

I have two favorite dishes that are at very different ends of the spectrum.

The Sage Chicken Benedict from Hash House A-Go-Go (San Diego, Vegas, and Chicago). It's easily the most delicious thing I have ever eaten (part of, it's huge!)

L'Oeuf de Poule from Joel Robuchon in Vegas. The cheese course and the bread course are also to die for!!
