There are the ones for things that aren't actual phrases that you would ever say in real life (FTW, SMH, etc). And the ones for actions that are CLEARLY not happening at the moment (ROFL, LMFAO). I also can't stand when people shorten things just to shorten them, like @boiledpnut: said. My dad does this in text messages and I hate it - it makes me physically cringe. I use omg when I am surprised or mad. I also get annoyed when people can't spell things out or make up their own acronyms.
