Best: Lots of natural light, new carpet and wallpaper, nice neighbours, good storage space, large bedrooms, big yard, large separate laundry

Worst: Original 1950's kitchen (good condition but it's not big enough for all our kitchen stuff!), tiny bathroom, small living spaces, no open plan anything.

We're currently living in military rental accommodation so it's been a case of living in the house we were allocated and although it's overall a nice enough house it's 80 square metres smaller than the house we moved from!

@babyjmama: really?! I love YOUR floors. Don't you have real hardwood? For some reason, all new construction homes around my area only have engineered hardwood - including my house! I love the real stuff :)

Best: layout is fantastic for our family, 4 good sized bedrooms, plenty of storage. The master bedroom is really large, there are two big walk-in closets and the master bath is a good size.

Worst: new construction so there isn't a ton of charm. Also, still noticing some nail pops a year after into owning it. Our living area doesn't get a ton of natural light but I think we'll install 2 extra windows.

Best: huge backyard

Worst: Super tiny kitchen.

Best: upstairs laundry! It's on the 2nd floor next to the bedrooms, yay! Open concept main floor. 2 full size walk-in closets in the master bedroom.
Worst: small 3rd bedroom, I'd have made the 2nd floor layout different (too bad the builder didn't consult me! :silly: ) also, the yard is kinda small :/

We rent a 2 bedroom apartment so there are several negatives related to space, but I do like the floor plan a lot. The living room and kitchen are a big rectangle and the bedrooms are behind the main living area.

I don't love our kitchen, but I think the worst space is our bathroom. It is cramped and the layout is bad. There is no storage and no room to add storage (like standing cabinets). Plus the shower has doors and they drive me crazy. I think it feels more cramped because we have to keep our cat's litter box in there.

Best: Modern, fairly new, and I just really like the look of it - we didn't have to change anything when we moved in because I already loved all the paint, fixtures, wood finishes, etc.

Worst: Not a lot of storage space. No basement and the attic needs to have boards laid down, there's not much of a floor at the moment.

Best: Location. We live in a great, family-friendly neighbourhood; on a small, quiet cul-de-sac, and behind the 5th best school in the city (and it's not even a private or charter school!). We also live 2 blocks from the ridge of a provincial park so we have access to hundreds of kilometres of trails and green space.

Worst: Our house has absolutely no curb appeal. It is U.G.L.Y. on the outside! We moved from across the country and I forgot what it looked like and I remember when we pulled up, I was like, "THIS is our house?!?! Ew!!!" Thank goodness the interior is a different story!

Best: We put a lot of work into making the house our own - Added livingspace, 1/2 bath, eating area, finished basement, and it works really well for our family of 3. Fenced in yard. great town with great schools and near my hubs family.

Worst: busy street, shared driveway, no garage. If we want to have a 2nd kid we'll have to look at either expanding the house again or moving. Bedroom not big enough to fit a king size bed and creaky older floors (while they look great, at night we're always careful where we step not to wake the baby)

Best: We live in paradise! (Well, as close to it as I think you can get in this life. ;) ) Also, the rent is reasonable and our neighbors are generally very agreeable and considerate people.

Worst: Beige everything. It's a rental, and technically we could paint the walls. However, we'd have to paint it back to beige before we leave and I can't be bothered. Nothing I can do about the pine-and-beige kitchen and it's fluorescent overhead lamp. I would also love to have a garage.

best: location! I'd stay forever if we could, I love love love it here. The only thing that separates where my house is from the city is the Charles River. 4.6 miles from Fenway Park. Two malls, lots of restaurants, the T!, summer evening walks to Harvard Sq., bike trail directly behind house, park across the street & it's pretty cheap!

worst: it's teeny tiny, no storage, it's pretty dark, the kitchen has new appliances but is the smallest ever and cabinets are awful, ugly rugs.

it's great for right now :)

Best: Great area, huge house, tons of built ins, finished basement, hardwoods, siding, and new first floor windows

Worst: one of our showers leaks (like RAINS), needs new upstairs windows, poorly laid out kitchen, bedrooms are awkwardly sized, horrible blue tile in our half bath

Worst: carpet/flooring and trim color. It's all basic builder code, we want to start doing upgrades to make it a little more special. We just are not DIYers so we haven't yet ;)

Best: It's a beautiful open layout with lots of natural light and it's all brand new so it's pretty up to date on current trends.

Worst: We bought it as a spec house, so we didn't get to pick any of the finishings and there are some custom finishes we wish we had. Also our yard is the size of a postage stamp and we can't afford to fence it because our HOA requires a ridiculously expensive type of fence.

Best: Tall fence (10ft) with a nice pool and spa (nice bc we redid everything to it. Re-coped, re-tiled, and re-plastered).

Worst: Super limited in storage space and poor insulation. It gets crazy cold and crazy hot depending on the weather which causes our furnace to run extra hard to keep up. Which results in high electricty bills. No bueno!!

Best: Location. Private backyard (although it's changed a little since a neighbor took down 2 mature trees bordering our yard). Exposed beams in the top floor and an en suite, which is rare around these parts.

Worst: It's drafty during winter. 70's elements I want to update and a small slither of a kitchen!

Best: huge fenced in yard, new decks, great neighbors/schools, lots of charming details, updated kitchen/bathrooms

Worst: all of the bedrooms except the master are walk-throughs because the house was built in 1770. Literally, you have to walk through one bedroom to get to the next (4 rooms total). It literally keeps me up at night sometimes because I hate it so much! lol.

Best: our basement. One entire wall is a feature with real stone and a fireplace, and it is comfortable and dark and cozy down there, with a full bathroom. The basement sold us on the house.

Worst: the kitchen. The flooring is terrible (it is old and cheap and never looks clean, even after hand-scrubbing), the cupboards are dingy and there aren't enough of them, and the pantry is wide open to the room. I cannot wait to reno the kitchen, but $$$$!!
