Boys are so wonderful! That smile he gives me when I get home from work is like nothing else! And a previous poster mentioned that you'll be the first woman he ever loves, and that holds a special place in my own heart!

I cried when I found out I was having a boy, but now, 14 months after having him, I couldn't imagine having a girl (first). Way less expensive but equally adorable. Boy toys are so fun, lol. I loce that people get him cars and balls to play with not dolls and houses. And he's a total Mama's boy :-P And I wasn't horrible as a teenager, so hopefully his different hormones will make him less horrible, lol.

So many mentioned above, my big ones are:
So easy going, low maintenance, he happily plays by himself for long periods of time.

Toys are easy- cars, Legos, balls. He loves the baseballs and basketballs we have laying around the house from long before he was born.

My favorite- he gave me a bug the other day!

@FutureMrsMcK: EXACTLY THIS.

LO is still quite young, but some of my favorite things about having a little boy are:

- I won't have to tell him he can't leave the house in something so short you can almost see his bits. I may have to tell him he can't wear a vulgar shirt or something, but I don't have to worry about him dressing like a baby prostitute, basically -- or changing into said clothes once he's at school.
- I won't have to tolerate an explosion of pink, glitter, or words on butts when shopping for a 4-year-old.
- Anecdotally, I have heard from other mothers that their little boys are so much more affectionate with them, and I love that.
- Also anecdotally, I have heard they are harder up front, but much easier after 3 or so than girls. Now, girls start getting whoa around 8 or 9 years old. I just don't think I could tolerate that.
- I was a teenage girl. I was a monster to my mother, and we didn't even have that dysfunctional of a relationship. I am really glad that I have less of a chance of going through that.
- We won't have to deal with the whole "posting fish-face belly shirt pictures of yourself on Facebook" crap and why that's not OK.
- Boys tend to struggle with self-image less and I think that's just easier to deal with as a parent.
- I love "little man" clothes -- dressing a little girl like she's older can be weird, but dressing a little boy in "mini-man" clothes like vests, suits, hats, suspenders, etc. is just adorable.

Not that we won't have a girl in the future, and of course I'd love her, but I'm really digging the odds of our future with a boy!

I grew up as an only child and I couldn't imagine having a son until I have one!

PROS:
- more active
- faster to learn to walk (at least mine does)
- you can be more rough with them, throw them up in the air, and it is OK!
- if they fall and cry, you'd just tell them get up! You're OK! And they'd get up and be cool. With a girl I'd think you'd baby them more;
- When they do nasty stuff (farting loudly, drooling, smearing food allover their face, acting like a monkey), and you'd think it is funny and cute when it is a boy;
- You tend to spend less $ on clothes;
- When you unfortunately have an "ugly" baby (ie the facial features are masculine / not as flattering), you'd thank God it was a boy rather than a girl!!! I've seen my husband's friend's baby girl (on facebook pics) with thick eye brows flat nose and large mouth, or very very thin hair / high hair receding line even at 3 years old, we always say amongst ourselves oh how unfortunate that it is a girl.... (sad but true!) However, when you have a baby boy with feminine features, it is always OK because they always grow up to be cute popular boys (eg. justin beiber lol)

@FutureMrsMcK: ha I opened this thread to say that!

I would go bankrupt if I had a daughter. All the clothes and accessories! There are some cute boy clothes but they're harder to find.

I have one of each, both have their perks- to me there are no bad traits of either. There are just as many cute boy clothes as girls, I don't think behaviourally the stereotypes are correct at all. Every person is unique and different, and that goes with little people too- boy or girl.

I wanted a girl but am finding lots of boy perks.
#1) less money spent on clothes! I would go nuts with all of the adorable girl clothes.
#2) not having to deal with skimpy clothes when older. At least I hope not!

I always thought before DS that I would never want two of the same gender...now I only want more boys! I just love my son so much and something about a boy makes this mamas heart melt! I would love a girl...but boys are just little doll babies to their mamas!

to me they are all wonderful and no gender can be attirbuted to one behavior or another necessisarily BUT outside of that: boys are more free to be wild and outspoken in our society. they do not have the pressures girls do on their appearance. there are all kinds of awesome punk rock clothes that boys can rock as well as girls. boys can get bigger and stronger so they can make the house possibly feel safer when you are older. boys are less vulnerable to sexualization. i love having a boy but yeah i think they are ALL just the bees knees and i have seen girls act boyish and boys act girlish.

It appears that boys love their mamas fiercely and loyally. That was the one aspect that made me think it might be worth having a third so that we could experience it... but I think we're done!

@FutureMrsMcK: well, according to my husband's logic: girls are so much more lucky because they can do it with anybody they want without worrying about knocking anyone up. Whereas poor, poor men...

I can't explain it, but I've always wanted a son and I think they are the best ever. I can't wait to have a daughter, either. But, a son will lead his family and carry our family name on. And he will protect his sisters and I get to teach him how to treat a lady and I get to see him be an awesome daddy one day.

Turns out, when you have a crawling baby, they tend to get disgusting. Dirty legs and knees, dog hair stuck all over them. All sorts of gross. But I don't have to feel bad with a boy. People expect him to be a little dirty. Ha ha!

I think it's all in how you raise them, and what the child's unique personality is like. I've met some shy and gentle baby boys, and some headstrong little gals. Some boys like playing house, while some little ladies enjoy kicking a soccer ball around.

Personally, I don't think one is more affectionate over the other, as a rule. My mom had two daughters - I would sit at the door, waiting for my dad to get home, and you literally couldn't pry my younger sister away from my mother. It's all relative.

I love having a boy. He's only a toddler, but so far our relationship has been way less "complicated" that mine and DD's.. Of course I love them both to pieces. The little boys are just such cuddly teddy bears, whereas the little girls often become princesses with all the drama that comes with :-)

congrats on your little boy!! I hadn't been keeping a close enough eye on Sept board and missed that you found out! :) I think you were like me and had preference toward girl, but all the little family blogs I read show so many cute little boys that I've come around to boys too. :)

I'm not as tempted to buy clothes, toys, and other things for X because there not as much out there to be tempted by. But also, there's no sentimental factor for me in buying him things-- what I mean is, there's nothing to tempt me to buy it bc I had it and loved it as a kid. I was a super girly little girl, so there's zero stuff from when I was little that crosses over-- that would work for a rough and tumble little guy. So the cost savings is good. I often tell DH when we're out shopping that it's good we have a boy, or I'd have a harder time restraining myself and staying within our budget.

@FutureMrsMcK: @deerylou: see, I argue this point, cause it can go the same the other way...a guy can get 5 girls pregnant within a month, and a girl can only be pregnant once at a time, lol. so I think it can go either way!

Have you seen any little boy pics of your husband? Mine looked so cute as a little boy, that there's definitely a part of me that's hoping for a boy that looks just like him. Also, there are super cute boy clothes. Little suits and caps. Adorable.

Umm, the fact that I don't have to deal with a teenage (or pre-teen) girl!! I've actually heard that boys are tougher in the younger years but once the pre-teen years start, girls are a nightmare!

I couldn't agree more about what pp have said about cute boys clothes and being able to play 'dress up' too. My LO is also ridiculously affectionate. He loves snuggling and giving me kisses way more than daddy!
