Either the nanny or go to the same place as his brother, just because it seems like it would make pick up easiest for you.

We don't have to figure this out, but a lot or the people in my neighborhood uses an older woman who does before and after care, or they use the school's option on campus.

My LO will start TK in the fall. I plan to send her to the after school daycare at provider's home, which is where my 6YO goes after school. She provides transportation, snacks, helps with homework, games, crafts, and relax. She watches up to 6 elem aged kids, and I thought it was just a nice home environment for my daughter to go to after school, with some kids there to play with as well. She was more affordable than the after school care at the school.

@MamaG: Yes. Our school program is like half the cost of other off-site things. And they do snack and homework and activities and extra playground time. I think there is probably not quite enough structure as I would like and a bit less supervision (just counselors not teachers watching kids) than I would like but we will deal with it when we get there.

@tlynne: same here - our afterschool at the public school is awesome!!!

I work from home this year and so we don't use it and DS begs me to let him go to aftercare!

We use our public school aftercare on the few times that we have needed it, and we love it. It's only $8.25 per day, and they provide snacks, homework help, crafts, outside play time (weather permitting), etc.

Right now I SAH/WAH and we don't need full-time childcare but if I go back full-time when LO is in grade school, we're pretty certain we will use an after-school babysitter. From others' experiences, it seems like after-school care can make for a really long tiring day for kindergarteners who are already adjusting quite a bit. My LO is sensitive so I just personally would prefer for her to get to come home, decompress and have one-on-one attention.

We do aftercare at our school. It's so cheap compared to the aftercare program at our daycare (like less than half the cost). I don't have to worry about transportation and she's getting to spend time with school friends (and even make new friends as Kinder and 1st go together in a group). Our school program also provides care for early release days.

She will do aftercare at the school. It's the easiest thing to do and least confusing for her. Most of the public schools we are looking at have after school through the Y, at the school

So my son is in K and there is a program offered by the school system that is on site. I opted not to use it because my parents are able to pick up my son, but I like the idea of it and would consider it if I could do it part time...but it's all or nothing and I understand the reasons for that.

I don't think our school has an after school program, and if it does most public school programs are pretty awful anyway. Hopefully my boss will let me go home early at least part of the week and make up the hours from home after I've taken DS to an after school program. It's been done by others in my office, even some really awesome productive senior managers. DH used to be very against this because he's convinced I won't be able to make up the hours, but (fingers crossed) he didn't think it was such an awful idea last time I brought it up.

We are going to do aftercare at the school. Its just easiest for her to stay in her familiar place and not be transported.

Later on there is a program with a bus that will pick them up. We may look into that.

Once all of our kids are in school we will look at just an after school nanny.

We don't have a lot of options because our elementary does not offer after school care. We will most likely use an aftercare program close that is close to our house. I have until 2018 to decide though

T starts K in the fall and registration starts in February. We have a few options for aftercare (I work). (1) he can be bussed to his old Montessori school (where his brother will be) and they can do aftercare there together (2) I can get an after school nanny for the boys (and possibly have this be the same nanny for the new baby, if we decide to get a nanny when I go back to work) or (3) he can do aftercare through the school district.

I'm leaning towards option 1. What are you doing for aftercare for elementary school if you work?
