get them to decorate a shoe box, and put them in there for them? they can keep it under the bed or in the wardrobe? that way they can decide what they want to keep in their box of achievements, and when/if its full they can get rid of some themselves.

I'll probably find a way to display them in their room, if that's what they want. We tend to toss stuff like that after a while. We haven't encountered anything "real", though.

They keep them in their rooms. We don't have too much and they've "earned" the ones that they got so far - meaning even though they received them for just participating, I'm proud that they've accomplished even that at their age.

I think we'll let our son decide. My mom let me keep my field day ribbons, lol. I had them so proudly displayed on a bulletin board in my bedroom.

Not there yet, but I think keep them in his room, either in a bin or on a shelf. Then he can decide what he wants to do with them.

I also think any legit ones we would display in the main area for a bit before moving it to his room.

I like your idea @Boogs: of taking a photo with them.

I can't quite relate (yet)? But I would probably keep them for the kids. I had a mother who kept NOTHING. I also grew up in a different time/place, I guess? My first trophy was earned at age 9, a legit trophy from riding in a horse race.

@Grace: I agree!

Eventually I gave them to my dad and he has passed but they are still there. I guess I appreciate he was so proud.

I would talk my kid into taking photos with them. Then the medals would disappear. If it's legit ones I would have no problem keeping and displaying.

This will probably be a battle between my husband and me. He likes to keep EVERYTHING (he legit has a binder with every one of our daughter's daily sheets from her first year of day care). I'm not very sentimental and would only want to keep the medals and trophies that were legit achievements and not just "participation" or made up awards. I'm really against this move towards the idea that everyone is a winner. Real life doesn't work like that.

They belong to my kid, so it's up to them what they want to do with them. I think mine were in shoebox in my room. If I get crafty and they want to, maybe we'll make some sort of frame for them.

My kids are in summer camp, and the camp gives out medals every week for things like Most Selfless, Karate Kangaroo, etc. The medals are plastic but painted gold and silver, and my kids are so proud of them. So we've kept them in a drawer so far.

The medals are kind of piling up though, and I figure they'll keep "winning" them (this is America after all, the land where everyone is a winner). I was considering keeping the ones from this year, and getting rid of the ones from previous years. But actually my eldest hasn't been winning medals this summer and took solace in his medals from last summer. We still had them lying around, which worked out nicely. But maybe we shouldn't be saving stuff like that. Not sure.

My initial take is: if you win a true achievement and a real trophy, then we will hold onto it until you graduate from college. If it's a plastic medal, then maybe we hold onto it until the kids are old enough to realize that it's not worth much. Still thinking it through though.

What are you going to do with all the trophies and medals that your kids bring home?
