The recovery, for sure. I hate pain and the things it sounds like you have to do those first couple weeks after delivery just to go to the bathroom normally are very worrisome.

@anonysquire: I'm the exact same way. During labor I didn't want anyone making a fuss. If you were going to be there, be invisible. But during the pushing I would have killed DH had he been anywhere but at my side.

@anonysquire: I feel like that too :( when I'm really sick or in pain, I want to be alone. I'll have my baby here in less than a week now and I'm getting scared of all the unknown :/

Without a doubt the recovery scares me more than anything! I fully plan on taking every pain medication there is during labour (epidural? yes please!) but the recovery just sounds like it can go on and on and on. Factor in the exhaustion and stress from taking care of a newborn baby and the recovery process absolutely terrifies me.

It also doesn't help that all five of my best friends have all had children now and shared every detail with me - there is so much more to recovery than I had ever anticipated. Sigh. 27 weeks left to prepare myself for it!

Postpartum recovery for sure. Labor will end after a few hours byut recovery will take weeks. And I'll be exhausted trying to learn to care for a new baby. I've read lots of informative blog posts about recovery and learned there is so much more to recovery then I could have imagined.

I'm totally more worried about recovery. Like @Tina said, labor only lasts so long and has to end. Recovery you might feel like roadkill AND have to look after a new baby on top of it. I guess there's more unknowns with recovery...

@Mrsbells: I have no clue why it still bothers me so much! Labor wasn't much fun but I am decent at dealing with pain, recovery was super fast for me and I was back to normal soon after birth, breastfeeding was a breeze and I never had any problems with it but needles... it is just so unnatural lol.

Postpartum. Only because I have been through it all before. I'm ok with the labor, but I had PPD with DS, and that scares me to have to go through that again. Also, I tore super bad, and he cracked my tailbone on the way out, so that made it even worse!

I'm most worried about the epidural needle. And then the recovery. Haven't decided (I'm not KU yet) if I'll go natural or not, though I'd like to...and the googling I've done about epidurals freak me the heck out. No thanks to an IV in my back...yuck!
But I've had some friends with ridiculous recovery stories lately, including tears from front to back and over 2 dozen stitches. So that freaks me out, too.

Being newly pregnant after a loss, I'm more worried about making sure this little one is a sticky one! But, I'm more worried about recovery. I too have a high tolerance for pain (I broke my foot and walked on it and drove my stick shift car for a few hours before I realized) so I'm not too scared about labor/delivery - though I'm a bit apprehensive about tearing down there...

Definitely the recovery. I plan to get an epidural so that helps wit the fear of delivery, and it can only go on so long... and it's a means to an end, you know it will be over soon and then you have a baby. But the recovery can take forever. And you have to deal with that while also taking care of a brand new baby! I also tend to be a crazy hypochondriac. When I'm delivering I'll be surrounded by medical professionals who can answer questions. When I'm recovering at home alone I know I will convince myself that things that are totally normal are life threatening!!

Definitely more worried about recovery. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so I’m not too worried about the pain itself, especially since I’ll be in a great hospital where they can manage whatever I might need, or whatever might happen to me.

Recovery though – I’m at home with no medical knowledge, with a brand new infant! Scary! ;-)

I was more worried about recovery because delivery can't last for more than a couple of days, but recovery takes 2 weeks minimum AND it doesn't have a defined end. Mine ended up being horrific with complications sending me back to the hospital 2 weeks later, total of 4 weeks before I was really up and about again, and I had a vaginal birth with only a very "easy" tear. For me, it's easy to face the fear of delivery since it's quick compared to the mystery of recovery. I had issues with recovery that lingered for almost a year.
