We will be spending Christmas in Paris and New Year's in Madrid. Our family was very supportive about not spending the holidays with them (we felt guilty about wanting to do this until they reassured us that it was totally fine) but it is only this one time and it is the only time where DH and I have both time off from work without having to take vacation days. My SIL lost her mom the month before that. So ever since that first Christmas without them, my SIL's and I do a cooking baking day-usually the weekend before Christmas. It started out just my one SIL and I but now it's grown to the whole family. My SIL's and I do all the baking. Our spouses usually watch football, go get lunch and whatever supplies we forget, and are the officially cookie taste testers. My dad's girlfriend (lady friend?) helps keep an eye on my nieces and decorates the cut out cookies with them. It is so much fun and is almost better than getting to together on Christmas-more relaxed and fun. First of all, it's celebrates a war. Obviously, war isn't a good thing. Second of all, it's only big because people got jealous of Christmas. Still, I do enjoy the traditions we have, the food we eat, the menorah lighting every night, and the gift giving. </p> <p>However, this year I'm actually looking forward to a Christmas tradition more. My SIL's Christmas tradition. My brother and SIL have been having quite a hard time lately, and to top it all off they aren't able to see her family for Christmas like they usually do because of work schedules. She's pretty devistated. I know that she usually spends the whole week leading up to Christmas baking with her mom, so I offered to help bake with her this year. My mom, SIL, and I will get together and bake a ton of cookies while listening to Christmas music. I'm really looking forward to it, and I hope that it makes my SIL feel at least a little bit better! </p>
