@2PeasinaPod: also loving the coins in eggs! My 6 year old will love counting the money and the 3.5 year old will love to fill his piggy bank! This is genius. So much better than the small toy junk that I usually reuse every year.

I usually do a few things I plan on buying anyways (a new swim suit, sandals, maybe a pair of sunglasses), art supplies (usually for outdoors like new chalk or outdoor paint), maybe some outdoor toys like a shovel or bubbles, and a small treat.

My DD will be 14 months at Easter so putting together a basket is mostly for my benefit - because it's fun! It'll probably be little packets of goldfish crackers/animal crackers, boxes of raisins, a board book, a small toy, and I'm also putting a pair of Toms in. Mainly because I ordered them and justified it by telling DH they were for her Easter basket. I'd like to do some plastic eggs for her to open but I'm not sure what I'd put inside...

Working on my list now. I use it as an opportunity to get stuff for the spring/summer. We do an easter egg hunt around the house/yard.

inside easter eggs:
small wooden animals
candy/treats

5 year olds easter basket:
-jump rope
-drawing pad/pencil sharpener/colored pencils
-Thumbelina book, illustrated by Elsa Beskow (so excited for this one!)
-Summer jams
-Chocolate bunny

1 1/2 year olds basket:
little sailboat
rock crayons and drawing pad
Sonya's Chickens book
Summer jams

for both of them: a giant bubble kit

@LadyDi: DD will be almost 15 months at Easter.
This year for Easter she will be getting a couple books, rain boots, muddy buddy rain suit, gardening tools, snack catchers, puffs and giant coloured bouncy ball. Maybe a couple other cheap Easter type things if I see them.
I loooooove the filling an umbrella idea and will do it when she gets older, but she’s too young to hold one right now, I also like the filling up the rain boots idea.

Last year when she was around 3 months she got a couple books, a stuffy, outfit, bunny ears and a ‘some bunny loves you’ sign.

We’re not doing any chocolate but will be doing an Easter egg hunt. I got some of the clear plastic eggs that we can fill ourselves. We’ll fill them with goldfish crackers, hair things, socks and other non chocolate items.

@2PeasinaPod: coins in eggs is genius! My kids would go nuts for that and we have about a zillion plastic eggs and I try to find some small non candy things. I am totally stealing this!

This is the second year in a row we will travel right after Easter. so I will find new random little stuff for the plane, plus swimsuits, plus a book and probably that is it. Candy and fruit snacks for the eggs and the plane and we are good to go.

This is all theoretical of course since I won’t start shopping for a few weeks.

I was just wondering this, too! I picked up a basket for her the other day and had no idea what to put in it because she'll only be just shy of 4 months then. DH already said candy for us, but this thread inspired us to get books. She has a ton but a lot are paper pages for when she's older. A few more board books to keep bedtime routine interesting would be good.

@LadyDi: The same bunny ears for the third year in a row 😂 Some candy. Plastic eggs filled with little pull back plastic cars I found on amazon. Socks. Bubbles. Chalk. Color wonder finger paint. Wind up chick. And the crowning jewel - Skye’s helicopter from Paw Patrol that he has been asking for 😂

I'm with @Bluemasonjar and @Jennibenni, I never heard of the toys in a basket until recently. I'm just going to stick to little plastic eggs hidden around the house and backyard. Since DS is allergic to milk, it will likely be smarties and fruit snacks. Maybe some stickers.

@LadyDi: For your newborn, do some small things like a board book, vitamin D drops (if you're breastfeeding), a new pacifier, soap and new washcloths.

For your older kiddo, Crayola has color bath drops that are super cute and change the color of the water in the bath, sidewalk chalk, a small puzzle, magformers if you want to go bigger, and in the eggs, we'll put some change in them instead of candy. Both of my kids looooove putting change in their piggy banks and hearing it as they shake them.

She’s still eating through her Valentine’s Day candy. I let her have one piece of candy per day after dinner. It’s great incentive for getting her to eat her dinner! Lol.

My husband is a practicing Catholic and I’m not, so he takes care of the church end and I treat the “Easter baskets” as “Welcome spring” baskets. In past years we’ve gotten umbrellas, rain boots, and various gardening supplies. We’ve really lucked out with weather the past few years and have actually gotten to do planting activities during Easter weekend (even if it’s only March, I let them plant a few seeds).

DD1 (4.5 years old) is going to get some gardening tools, maybe 1 fun candy item, and this cute purse/hat combo I found on Amazon.

(Amazon Link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XSZ1CJN/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_13?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3CZMAYXWWEHBU)

@erinbaderin: That's exactly why my infant is getting a basket...I just don't want his older brother to question it.

@Tanjowen: I LOVE the idea of filling an umbrella instead of a traditional basket! Where did you get the umbrella?

@Jennibenni: I like the idea of using things we already have. I think I have a bunny lovey and some pacifiers stored away somewhere. I got gifts in my basket growing up, but I have never been a big candy person...I think after a couple years of seeing candy go uneaten the easter bunny switched to gifts instead.

2.5 YO and 4 MO...both are getting a bunny bubble wand, I got a cute little puff ball slingshot at the dollar spot at target for the 2 yo, and I have a stash of plastic eggs but I’m not planning to fill them with anything. I hate small plastic junk and we def don’t need any candy. I will fill the baby’s basket with stuff we already have, like books or a rattle. The 2 yo I may add some art supplies or something.

I like to keep them low key, when I was growing up we never got gifts in our baskets, just eggs and candy, so the idea of full on presents is something I find a little strange.
