@rsp213: Divergent was great. I really want to read the other two now, but have too many other books laying around to buy more.

Anybody want to loan me Insurgent? I'll pay you back the postage.

I just finished reading Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan... I enjoyed it so much that I'm re-reading it again! It's s fictional tale about billionaires in Singapore and super entertaining. It also inspired me to start planning a trip to Singapore! Hoping to go later this year.

@IRunForFun: Oh and as far as not loving her early stuff, I definitely agree. I rank the ones I have read like this:

We Need to Talk About Kevin
Post Birthday World
Big Brother

@sarac: @MrsKoala: @IRunForFun: @Running Elley: It makes me so happy to see the Lionel love! I am kind of obsessed and also recently read "Big Brother". I agree with @sarac that she's pretty harsh about people who are overweight/obese. Which, if you have read any recent interviews with her, you will see that weight is definitely an issue with her. She's a total weirdo, but I kind of dig it. For some reason I prefer my authors to be a little eccentric, you know? Anyway, here's a recent Elle interview:
http://www.elle.com/pop-culture/reviews/lionel-shriver-profile-big-brother-book

And now I'm thinking I have posted this before, perhaps? Oh, well... gotta share the Lionel love when I get the chance.

@Running Elley: @MrsKoala @IRunForFun I am JUST now reading The Post Birthday World, and so far I really like it. I loved We Need to Talk About Kevin, and Big Brother. So then I went to read The Female of the Species, and yeah, it's weird and not nearly as good. My edition of the book had an essay from the author about how it was her first book, and that she's glad to have evolved in her writing ability since then. She was pretty clearly saying 'this book is good, but it gets way better', which seems to be the case. I'm eager to go read all of her stuff to see the entire arc of her talent.

As an aside, I see the criticism of Big Brother. It was based on her real life experience with an obese brother who died, so I tried to excuse her feelings. But there is some really ugly sentiment about overweight people. I'd personally suggest avoiding it to anyone who would take that personally.

I'm actually reading a book my cousin wrote right now, but I just finished the last Percy Jackson (I'm a sucker for YA fiction). We went on a long road trip too and listened to audiobooks: Dad is Fat, Lets Pretend this Never Happened, & The Drunkards Walk (the last one was pretty boring).

@FutureMrsMcK: My book club read that and we all enjoyed it!

I've been slowly making my way through a biography of Queen Victoria for several months. It's good, but you can't read very much at a time because it is so dense. I also set aside a book that was a huge letdown and was too lazy to go to the lib and too cheap to buy something else so I started rereading Harry Potter from book 1. I'm going to have to switch gears soon and read my book club book- the Madman's Daughter.

I'm lately obsessed with Lionel Shriver. I started with 'We Need to Talk About Kevin', which is utterly gripping. Then I read her latest book, 'Big Brother', which was just as compelling without the violence and really tragic ending. I'm going back and reading some of her earlier stuff now, which is interesting. I really like everything I've read so far.
