@Pumpkin Pie: I have frozen Costco packaged grated cheese with success. Deli meat, not so much.

Meat - we like to stock our freezer full so I can just throw stuff in the crockpot and I freeze veggies as well. Anytime there is a good sales I'll stock up (there was recently an amazing deal on pork tenderloins and turkey breast so I bought 5 each to keep in the deep freeze.) It really helps cut down our weekly grocery bills come holiday time when more money goes to gifts/traveling/parties. I do always keep an extra loaf of bread and shredded cheese in the freezer too.

@Pumpkin Pie: Well, it's cheese that we use for raclette and fondue, so the consistency after the thaw doesn't matter so much.

I also store grated parmesan, though, and that always maintains nicely.

@Pumpkin Pie: No, I just toss packages of lunchmeat and cheese in the freezer. They thaw just fine. If I was buying fresh sliced from the deli I would use a freezer ziploc.

I like to stock up on pastries and desserts made by kids from the local grade schools. We usually buy them during our yearly town market and freeze them to eat throughout the winter. We live within walking distance from two grocery stores, so we don't normally stock up unless something's on sale.

@looch: I didn't know you could freeze cheese. Is it only certain types?

@MrsSRS: and you can freeze lunch meat? Like cold cuts? Is there anything special you need to do to it?

I try to keep it not too full until hunting season is over in hopes of it being filled with wild meat.

In the winter though I try to do less frequent bigger grocery shops as I hate getting groceries when it is so cold.

Ravioli, cooked taco meat, cooked pulled pork, meatballs, lunchmeat, bread, cheese, berries, peas, broccoli, soup, pancakes...winter is our tight budget season so we fill our big freezer in the fall and it helps keep our grocery budget lean.

Cranberries. We buy enough in the fall to last us almost into next fall. They're full of vitamins and freeze so well!

I keep a lot of frozen meat that does well in the crockpot or Instant Pot. So bags of frozen boneless skinless chicken thighs, ground beef, oxtails, brisket, chuck roast, pork butt, and recently I found a killer deal on a bone-in ham so I grabbed it. I also always have breakfast sausage patties, link sausages, hot dogs, corn dogs, meatballs, deli meat, fish, and chicken nuggets. We also keep lots of frozen veggies (corn, peas, peas and corn, baby lima beans, green beans, broccoli, and spinach) to throw into everything. I also usually keep some frozen waffles/mini pancakes around. And bread. We always have some kind of bread or bun or something in the freezer.

Lots of meat I can stick in the crockpot and veggie steamer bags for an easy side. I'm also going to add some breakfast type prepped items (waffles, egg muffins, french toast) that I can warm up when I want something warm really fast :)

We tend to have some brutal winters here at times, and when that is the case the last thing I want to do is go out and drive to the grocery store. I'm going to start stocking up on sale items to put in the freezer.

What things are you planning on stocking the freezer with for the winter months?
