1 - A great thanksgiving trip to see the in-laws and now a relaxing weekend back home to welcome the Christmas season! Our neighborhood has a tree lighting where all the kids gather, listen to carolers, drink hot chocolate (mulled wine or hot toddys for the adults), and meet Santa. Totally free, down the street, and super festive!

2 - Work has been challenging lately. That’s all I’ll say but I’m looking forward to a fresh start in 2020.

3 - My therapist! Not even kidding, she’s improved my life tenfold since finding her about a year ago. I absolutely cherish her!

I have a gratitude journal. Really just a bullet journal I use for lots of things, but several times a week I’ll record one thing that’s happening that day and one thing for which I’m especially grateful.

1- My kids. They bring joy, and sass, and fun into my life. They make me notice the small things and be present in the moment.
2- Lots out of my control this year...two things in particular: baby 4 on the way, and my kids' school moving at the end of the year will together be the impetus for us to move. Not sure where yet but I'm optimistic that it will work out for the best wherever we land.
3- My dad for giving me his good attitude and my DH that works hard to provide for us and goes along with my whims.

Cultivating gratitude: two things I do daily that have become habit. 1- Every morning I ask myself what will make me happy today? could be big or small but helps me focus my intention (and then I am grateful for that thing later in the day).
2- I always make a point to notice at least one thing that's good/kind/beautiful and be grateful for it. Yesterday for example was a man on the street that got my screaming threenager to laugh. Today we walked by some gorgeous yellow trees.

Ooh I love reading these!

(1) Something good/a blessing you are thankful for: My job. I work part-time from home, with a very self-directed schedule and I'm so grateful. I enjoy my work and I enjoy the flexibility it affords our family.

(2) Something bad/challenging/out of your control that you are still thankful for: We've had some challenging situations with my in-laws over the last year, and I'm incredibly grateful for my husband through it. He's been patient, protective of what our family needs, and steady through it. We also both appreciate the many healthy, positive family dynamics in other relationships much more as a result.

(3) A person you are thankful for: My mom. Since becoming a mom myself, I'm still amazed (maybe more so) by all the ways she supports and encourages me.

Bonus: How do you cultivate gratitude in your life? My faith and prayer time have a lot to do with this. My girls and I also have a bedtime tradition of each naming "three good things" from that day, and it means a lot to me that we wrap up our days together focusing on the good.

(1) Something good/a blessing you are thankful for
Its hard to pick just one good thing because I'm greatful for so much! Mostly just a healthy/happy family, no drama within our family of 5, everyone is healthy, hoping that continues forever!

(2) Something bad/challenging/out of your control that you are still thankful for
It's hard to say that I'm thankful for DH's crappy family members, but at least it makes me appreciate my family more. It has made me so much more aware of how great a guy my DH is.

(3) A person you are thankful for
DH! He has done so much for us this past year, he handles all our finances which I know is stressful, he works his butt off to improve our house, and he is such a great dad to our kids, he's always showing he loves me in small ways and I need to be better about reciprocating!

Bonus: How do you cultivate gratitude in your life?
Could be better at this!

(1) I am so thankful for our careers and all that they allow for us. DH and I both work very hard and although sometimes that isn't so fun it allows us to do the things we want to do and to provide the things we want to for our family. We are blessed to not live paycheck to paycheck and if a car breaks down we aren't going to be worried about getting it fixed. I used to live like that and it was so stressful. I am thankful that with lots of hard work and working to make smart financial decisions that we are in the position we are in today.

(2) My horrid relationships with females/not understanding them.... bc these ridiculous relationships make me all the more grateful and thankful for the real, true relationships and friendships I do have. The few people who do get me and who are there for me no matter what. Sometimes it takes taking a step back or something bad/annoying to open your eyes to what you have right in front of you that you took for granted. So I am grateful for losing 2 work friendships this year, although it was tough and confusing it opened my eyes to the friends and family who are true and real. and for that I am grateful!

(3) this might sound cheesy but I am so grateful for my DD, she is my sunshine, she always makes me happy no matter what. She makes my life so much happier and easier.

Bonus: How do you cultivate gratitude in your life? for me my gratitude comes in heaps and bounds bc I simply remember where I've been and what I've been through and there were some very dark times, DH is in recovery and he also has the same gratitude that we can't believe how blessed we are now, we never would have imagined the life that we live. We worked hard for it …. but we remain forever grateful for it as well. There was a time when I didn't think i'd marry or have kids, let alone have a beautiful home and be financially secure.. but here we are. Very blessed indeed.

My first instinct answer to the first two is all related to health. I am very thankful to live in the era of modern medicine and at a time when my kids’ issues are not life threatening as they might have been 100 years ago. I know so many around the world struggle to get access to needed care and medicines, and so many everywhere struggle with more difficult health problems than us. While we definitely wish we had better insurance so we could budget less in health expenses, I’m thankful we do have insurance and won’t be bankrupted by anything that happens. In the end though the money is just an annoyance. When my son struggles to breathe during the night sometimes, or when kids get a high fever and I’m holding their limp burning up little bodies, I always think about how deeply frightening it would have been for this to happen when you couldn’t do much - to not know if they would survive. And again, while medicine can fight many things today so many parents still have to watch their children fight and sometimes lose. I was annoyed about going to cvs for expensive medicines today and writing this was a good reminder to be grateful for what we have!

I’m thankful for many but having my mom around comes to mind first. As of this year DH and I each have one parent left. My relationship with my mom is not as easy as it used to be, but she is so important to us and I hope she can stay healthy for a long time.

I probably need suggestions on cultivating gratitude better!!

(1) Our baby boy due in Feb! Total surprise, and of course adding a 3rd has its challenges, but still so thankful for this gift

(2) Probably also our baby boy. We were not expecting a 3rd and it definitely threw us on a roller coaster ride in terms of finances, short term plans for the next few years, etc. And I've always been very challenged in the self-care area, so I get nervous about how I can find balance with 3 and working full-time still. And make room for DH too. But how I can not still be thankful for another life?!

(3) My mom. She's the real MVP! She doesn't work but is probably even more busy than me, yet she is committed to helping us as much as she can and is always an endless support system to me

I think mostly my faith helps be stay thankful through any circumstance in my life! But one thing I want to start doing is a gratitude journal or something!
