I lived in my rocker for the first months of DS's life, nursing for multiple hours each day. It gave me the back support I needed, and the rocking motion was soothing to the both of us. Also, a good nursing pillow and cover. I used the Boppy with DS#1, but just bought the My Brest Friend pillow for DS #2. The Boppy lost support after a few months, and I think that the MBF pillow will give me more back support.

I also loved our Moby wrap. It was great to have a carrier that could be used in a variety of positions, and was quite comfortable. It's my go-to gift for new mom's to be, along with the Sophie teether.

The absolute must have in our house has been the white noise machine. We live in a very small house and it definitely helps filter out some of the noise so she can sleep. Until 4.5 months another must have was the summer infant swaddleme wraps. She got out of regular blankets from the very beginning and these were a godsend. One big surprise must have has been the boppy pillow. I didn't breastfeed so I didn't expect to use one but because someone gave me one I started laying the baby on it on the floor and she absolutely loves it. It's been a lifesaver for the times when she absolutely does not want to lay flat on her back.

@nokiademic: DS took over my bathroom. It isn't large by any means, but we used an IKEA Hemnes dresser as a changing table. It just fits in the space and I wouldn't have it any other place. Sometimes, you just need to put the baby under the sink to clean them up!

For those first few months my favorite
Things to have were a good nursing bra, those breast pads because your breasts will leak at the worst possible times. I second the clippers and gloves for the baby and a snug fitting knit cap cause babies lose heat through their head. She wa
Born in the colder months so that was a necessity. I also loved a good baby tub because bathtime was also great bonding experience. My mom recommended me to use some kind of abdominal band to tighten up my flabby post baby belly, I think that really helped my body a lot.

@looch Wow, good idea about the changing table in the bathroom! If our bathroom in this house was bigger, that'd definitely be in our (future) plans. As it is now we can barely both fit in there at the same time..heh.

Best thing we bought was a solid changing pad, so when DS pees in mid-change, we can just wipe it down.

We also put our changing table in the bathroom, so we don't have to worry about bringing DS out from his bath to get him into his jammies.

Couldn't live without swaddle blankets those first few months and our bottle sterilizer. Now I am obsessed with our Beaba Babycook machine. I use that multiple times a day.

I needed a breast pump, white noise machine, NAIL CLIPPER! (those nails grow like weeds and can slash an eye out) and I got the Jolly Jumper Boomerang Nursing Cushion and LOVED it. Couldn't live without it.

When Charlie was a baby, mine were a video monitor, a light dimmer, a thermometer/hygrometer (since I obsessed about whether Charlie was too hot/cold), white noise machine, a washer/dryer (a luxury in ny), and a dishwasher (which I'd never used before having Charlie but now I can't live without it).
