DD1: Oppositional behaviour - refusing to eat, refusing to go to the toilet, refusing to leave the house. Oh and anger - we need to work on managing anger.

DD2: Sleep. She a dream unicorn baby compared to her sister, but she never did recover from the 4 month regression and I'm really hoping she starts sleeping through soon.

PATIENCE!

My 2.5 year old who talks back, spits and laughs evil-ly with the smirk that causes mommy to think I'm going to beat the shit out of you. His lack of ability to keep his tongue in his mouth and will lick the floor of a public bathroom, the logo on a stadium seat, and hand rails.

My parting remark to him daily: stay alive!!

I am trying to figure out solids and baby proofing.

Feeding the baby lately has been a challenge because I have to balance what the pediatrician told us what to do with what DH thinks the baby can handle with the reality of what I am seeing.

@junebugsmama: us too :bummed: If nothing is bothering DD, she'll sleep through the night, but if she does wake up (which is pretty much every day), nothing but nursing will do. She has got most of her teeth, so maybe I'll just hang on another month till the worst ones come through.

Also the kids are having trouble sharing. They've gotten better about toys, but they're not doing so great sharing me...

Ongoing attempts to nightwean. He's come so far from needing to be repeatedly nursed/rocked/nursed again, and then eventually just rocked (for freaking forever each night till allllll the way asleep) and now I just lie next to him and he rolls around and falls asleep practically by himself! But... he wakes up at 3 or so and just wants to nurse on and off till morning. I am so weak at that hour I can't do anything else besides what's gonna get me back to sleep faster. Even though I wake up for a few seconds over and over and over. I wish we could wait it out but I've been trying to wean for his teeth. I just need to let him cry it out, while I hold and cuddle him, but it's so tough!

Right now my challenge is staying patient with my newly minted 3 year old when she goes into threenager mode while dealing with the pain and exhaustion of third trimester. In our family, we all feed off each other's bad moods so the best defense is to try to stay upbeat or at least calm but it's hard when I'm feeling super run down, which is becoming more common these days.

Mine is always the same--just keeping all the plates spinning. The daily grind. Wake up every day at 5:45, get ready for work while having a child clinging to my leg (because I have early risers), long commute to work, work grind while making appointments and fielding emails about preschool PTA stuff, long commute home with stops to run errands, buy groceries, get home and play with kids, try to cook dinner with kids who want my attention literally clinging to my legs again, feed kids dinner, pack their lunches for the next day and clean up dinner. FINALLY DH gets home and we split and each of us takes a kid and does bath, pajamas, story, bed. Clean up living room and kitchen. Be a zombie on the couch for an hour. Go to sleep. Wake up and do it again.

What's missing in my schedule is exercise time, ME time, time to do beauty treatments or shop or do anything to make me not a frazzled mom. =/

Balancing the needs of my 3.5 year old and my 8 week old. The poor baby is chronically over tired because we are so often on the go for his big sisters schedule. And when she comes home from school and is exhausted I'm usually dealing with a fussy baby and can't scoop her up in the way she needs :/ major guilt

Since taking my positive discipline parenting class my old challenges (yelling at DS, lack of patience, massive meltdown on both me and DS) are all fading away miraculously. :)

For now our challenge is still a bit of me fearing at pick up time from school. DS (4.5 yo) is usually tired and he is like a ticking time bomb at pick up. He would go into massive tantrum mode if I make one wrong move. So everyday at pick up to bedtime I feel like I am walking on egg shells.

The other thing is his need to "win" and/or "be the first". He can throw a massive tantrum if another kid wash his hands first before he does.

LO will absentmindedly put her hand in her mouth often (in the worst locations-public bathroom, store) and she still doesn't use a napkin and runs her hand along the table or in her hair. Ironically she is fastidious about washing her hands before every meal and rarely gets sick.

getting my child to sleep. she's 13 months and a beast to put to bed. its like a 1-2 hour process every night with the tears, and she still wakes up several times during the night. i've been a zombie for months.

With my 3.5 yo it's yelling and getting LO to listen - and breaking up stale mates between LO and DH. The Positive Discipline book is waiting for me when I get home.

With my 16 mo it's clinginess.

This isn't a huge problem in the grand scheme of things, but my kids are super focused on fairness these days. If I read a book to one child, then the other wants to be read one book. If I read two books to one child (even if they're short books), then the other one will demand two (even if they're long). Everything has to be exactly fair, and it can be exasperating!

Also, our kids changed teachers a while ago and I haven't been thrilled with how their school has been going since then. We're working on some fixes, and hopefully we can get it back on track. The kids had a teacher all summer, so I'm telling myself that it's not so bad for them to have a little time that's not as productive academically.

What are your big parenting challenges right now?
