It isn't the lightest vacuum ever but our carpet is on the 2nd floor and basement and I can carry it between the two without problem. It does an awesome job picking up dirt and all the dog hair from our lab mix! And all the parts are metal instead of plastic so it won't break! It lost some of it's suction after a couple of years. Now I have a dyson animal and WOW. Such a difference. I thought the shark was like the greatest thing ever when i first got it, but my dyson really hands down is the best out of the two. So on a whim we bought a really cheap bagless Dirt Devil canister vacuum for like $40 at Target and we never replaced it! The drawback is that it has a short cord (which an extension cord can fix), and the canister isn't that big since its a petite little vacuum, but it has great suction and its SUPER lightweight. We were pretty surprised at how well it does and our house is 90% carpet + area rugs. Everytime we think about getting a new one we're like meh, this works fine. Our current home is pretty much all wood floors and tile, so our crappy vacuum has worked fine for area rugs. But, it has stopped being "fine." AND in a month we are moving to a house over half carpet, so we need a great vacuum! </p> <p>It's been so long since I've lived somewhere where there's a lot of carpet, so I don't even know what my requirements are really. The most important thing is that it's really effective at sucking the dirtiness off the floor. :) Lightweight would be nice because we will be lugging it around through the whole house. And easy maintenance too if possible. Our current vaccuum is bagless, which I thought would be nice, but you still have to replace filters (which I'm sure is standard, but if you have to get filters, why not also buy bags?), and we had to hand wash other filters from time to time, which was annoying. </p> <p>So, a really effective, lightweight and low maintenance vacuum! What is your favorite? </p>
